Just so everyone knows, I am not going to post any more replies until we hear from the players for Sharma and Ralan. I don't want them to get too far behind in all of this. I have just posted to Clare's and Shuelsai's initial posts, so we are all settled up for now. Hopefully, we can get into second and third posts next week.

Also, I need to know where Clare is starting. I got the idea it was in Lurien, but I need a more specific location. I can make one up if you're not sure or don't care, but I figure I should let the player decide.

Should I assume that my character has a map of the world, or did he just have access to one before he left?

Yes, your character would have a workable map of the region. Though maps tended to be rather unreliable in medieval times, you are in a culture where sea travel is very frequent and thus, cartography is much more developed than in a landlocked culture. There are still inconsistencies between various maps, but the basics are all correct for the most part.
