"Well. Hopefully the desolation and isolation of this place will mean the treasure is still here and not attracting other seekers. Let's continue towards the hill. Perhaps there will be some sort of opening at the base."

"Well, finding this place was certainly easier than I expected.", Almayce comments. "Let's see if we'll find the treasure as easily."

"Indeed, another sign that our Gods are with us on this journey. Let us make haste and get the most out of this day." Says Rogier when the party sees their next landmark.

The sight of the blackened tree both intrigued and disturbed Oirhandir. Surely they were in the right place, and without any sign of competitors. But some sort of magic must have preserved the remains of the tree in such a decrepit state. What would be the purpose of that sort of spell?

As they neared the mound, the elf started looking about for a suitable campground. It had taken over half a day to get this far, and even if they could quickly find an opening and gather up everything of value, it was still unlikely that they could make it back to the ruins of the old mill by nightfall.

"Indeed Iggy. I will see if there are any traces of Evil around this place which we should worry about."
Rogier uses his ability to Detect Evil when he gets the tree in range, and checks out the tree as well as the surrounding area.

Thick reeds cluster about the base of the hill, and bristling tufts of saw grass grow between the large rocks and boudlers scattered around the hill.

The tree is a truly amazing landmark. From a distance, it appears to be the remains of a leafless and lifeless oak tree burnt completely black. Upon closer inspection, the tree is actually composed of some sort of smooth black stone shaped into the form of a twisted dead tree... Or perhaps it was a tree transformed into rock. Who can say for certain?

After a few moments of concentration, Rogier discerns a small, faint source of evil seething with avaricious greed somewhere directly below him.

"Hmmm. Interesting. Does this seem like something a dragon would do? perhaps it has been done since the dragon's death. I prefer to camp here. We have a good defensible and dry position. If something attacks us, well, we'd probably have to fight it eventually anyway."
