The Weapon Skill System, Updated, Clarified, and Improved.

I'm not super keen on the weapon level idea, now that I've had a chance to look it over. That's almost like a free rank in a weapon skill, right?

Not sure I understand.... Is this in reference to the dodge and spell direction skills? I think this does need a little work but that was all I could come up with then. I am still thinking about it though.

Thanks for the input!

I guess my thought is to do away with the base attack bonus (or any equivalent) altogether.

I thought about that and have ranks equal to character level+3 but then you get magicians who take martial weapon proficiency and can now use a sword as good as a fighter. Something I am not opposed to but I was trying to keep it as close to the core rule books as possible. Perhaps giving any one use of a weapon would not be that bad?

You do not add your bab to your roll, weapon ranks take care of that. <-Not sure if this is what you were talking about but figured I would clarify.

See, in my ideal D&D ruleset, there would be no archetypal classes. Everything would be Skills and Feats based and would allow the maximum customization of your character. If you want a character that is a total slaughterhouse on the field of battle, build it! But if you want someone with more flavor, it'd be no problem to build a fighter who dabbles in magic, or a thief who could stand toe to toe with most combatants.

Ah..... I see. Okay, well that would require much more reworking of the system than I am currently ready to give. However, multiclassing does that to a point, so... You probably all ready knew that huh? :D

Wait! They did have that in the revised Advanced DMG! you picked pretty much everything and they had a system that worked out how much experience you needed to level. It was cool. Perhaps something like that for 3.0-3.5? Would of course have to set a max point but otherwise......Great, another project I wan to start on! :D

What is this book you speak of? Are you talking about the old Skills and Powers for 2e?

The revised Dungeon Master Guide for 2e. Its in the pc class section nad is called Creating New Character Classes (Optional Rule). It was very fun to mess around with.

One of my old classes was:
HD d8
BAB Fighter(THAC0 back then)
No armor
Slashing weapons only
2 hp per level beyond 9th
casts conjration and evocation spells.

It was a mix and match system. I may try to put it into 3.5 rules.........
