The Wilderlands boxed set. It's just amazing.

My interest in the boxed set is growing, especially after reading this thread. One question that comes to mind:

How will this boxed set be supported by Necromancer Games in the future? By that, I mean will future adventures published by NG/Kenzer be fitted to this setting or at least very adaptable to the setting?

I'm on the fence, but leaning toward buy.

Yea, between Dave, and Buttercup, I was totally sold on this product.

It is essentially this:

There are 9 maps, each two-sided. Each map is the size of 4 8.5x11 sheets of paper. The maps form an area comprised of 3 maps wide, and 6 maps tall. Each map is made up of hexes. Each hex is 5 miles wide. The entire map covers an area of about "750 miles wide by 1020 miles long". For reference, it is 600 miles from Indianapolis to D.C. or from London to Berlin.

Many of the hexes have detailed information about what is found in each hex. For example:

"0910 The Stone Tablet: A large pitted stone tablet is partially covered with grass. The right side of the tablet is hollow and contains several flutes. Carved on three flutes are maps to the ruins in hexes 1016, 1514 and 2301."

That's a small one. There are essentially 400 pages of these little descriptions like this, each encompassing the area described.

There area also broad descriptions of specific regions or geographic features which are spread over multiple hexes.

The flavor is very rich, and very evocative. The "world" as it where is a hodge-podge of cultures and civilizations from high tech "tinkering" gnomes to savage cavemen. It also runs the range of ELs from wild boars rutting for truffles to encounters of "dragon swarms". I saw at least one EL 20 area, but it wouldn't surprise me if there are area of 20+.

That's it, in a nutshell.

There are plans to release further products in this line, and there's already a swarm of material available for it, or that could be easily used with it. Frankly, it is overwhelming. No DM could ever even scratch the surface on the amount of campaigns hidden here. No way.

It will and it won't, depending on your perspective.

You won't get a supplement that talks about how the Invincible Overlord has decided to lead his troops against the World Emperor. You won't get new races or prestige classes or monsters. You won't get any metagame stuff. Thats all up to you.

You will get adventures that fit nicely into the world cause thats what NG does best. You will get a world that is your own to play with. You will get some updated adventures that took place in the wilderlands such as Tegal Manor. But after that, the "support" will be a few Judges Guild updates, and modules that easily fit into any setting. None of these will change the world or how things work in it. This is the best kind of support.

It will not get support in the sense that the realms get "support" with a constant stream of supplements and such.

I think its nice to have a CS that is contained in 3 products with 1 adventure that can easily be set in it.

Aaron.

Grazzt Here's a preview of Chapter 10: Lenap [url said:

So, is this preview indicative of the entire boxset? Seems to be skimpy on some details...Are all the locations detailed like this, or are there some focal areas that have a lot of detail (like a city or nation or something?) I am on the fence, but I can always use some locations...
