Thief, the Dark Project, the RPG?

Anyone else feel more "aware" of one's surroundings after playing. I think Thief grants the Alertness feat in real life. ;) I can tell who is coming by my office by their footsteps.

Splinter Cell does this to me.

So very true. :D

My favorite of the series is The Metal Age by FAR.

The Dark Project, despite being godly aweome, lost points for because of excessive use of undead and such monsters.

Deadly Shadows would be my fave, but for the complete lack of difficulty. I mean seriously, I made it through the game on elite difficulty with no trouble at all. Didn't get caught once. Shalebridge scared the living crap out of me, though. Awesome level. I also miss the briefings with the sketchbook illustrations. So awesome. Being able to prowl the streets and pick pockets/mug people was a nice change, though I would have expected The City to be bigger. This one ended the Garret story line perfectly, IMO.

Yes it did, thanks. I haven't had much time to look at it yet though - hopefully in the next couple of days. I'll let you know.
Thanks. Hope ya like it.

Have there been any "official" non-fan fiction Thief-related novels published? Playing the game is like being in the movie, but I'd curl up with a book -- WITH THE LIGHTS ON.

Maybe a little, but I generally plaued right before bed, so.. I've had lots of dreams with a light gem in them. The worst was the one where the gem malfunctioned, and I was on my own halfway through a mission... "You mean I'm normal now!? NOOO!!!"

Metal Age was cool- I liked what it did for the story- but Karrass.. He sounds like Droopy Dog on Helium! I wished, and wished, and hoped, and even prayed to the builder that I could put a sword in his head, or an arrow in his chest.. I even
brought a sunburst device to his hideout in soulforge
but it did nothing! Sure, he bought it in the end.. But I wanted to do it!

I liked Deadly Shadows a lot, and the only thing that kept me from doing it all the way through on Elite was the loot requirements. Damb them eternally. The missions themselves aren't all that difficult, I just hated having to comb them over 6 or 7 times for that last piece of loot.

Ok, how's this for bringing my thread in a new direction? Anyone feel up to helping me come up with an over-arching Superplot for my game? Shouldn't be terribly difficult, given the nuber of factions we have to work with..

I'd love to see someone help me plan out a plotline based around one of the three Wardens (Raputo, Ramerez, and Webster) trying to expand his territory into one ofthe other warden's areas.. Could be accomplished by siccing the hammers on them, given that they'd love to bring the three down.. However, the Hammers have their own problems..

In the Thief: The Dark Project mission "Undercover" we overhear that the leader fo the hammerites is old, and will be dying soon. I'd like to speed this up and say that his death is imminent, and there are factions of Hamemrs jockeying for position. The new leader must appoint a successor, but he can't do that if he's killed, now can he? Could be one of the Hammerite Hopefuls, or it could be an outside job, aimed at taking the Hammers down by severing the head of the organization and hoping for infighting. Could be a frame, here, too. Lots of potential ideas.

I want to set this before The Dark Project ever happened, so the Trickster hasn't been released from the Maw of Chaos yet. Victoria and a group of Pagans is trying to accomplish this, but to do so will need to collect some magical (and very valuable) components for the ritual.. the PC's could come in here, as I'd love to send them grave robbing in the Bonehoard (have it mapped out and everything!)

One of the PC's (the only one for now, as it'll probably a one-on-one game until I get a good feel for the setting and characters) is an old thief that was just released from Pavelock Prison (it's fun to use in-game locations). He has some skills, but they've deteriorated in his 20 years behind bars. He's first level, but remembers being so much better than that. I need a way to get him embroiled in plotlines.. Perhapse his partner who betrayed him those years ago (the only woman he ever loved) could be the key...

Now that's a cool idea, I'd love to run something like that myself.

Hmm, in May, I'm sharing an apartment for six weeks with a friend for a spring course in university that we're both taking, and we both like DnD...
