Things to do in NYC when you're a geek?

I'll be in midtown New York City later this week and early next. I was wondering what a geek like me would enjoy. I've already got a few places on my 'to visit' list including:

- Compleat Strategist
- Jim Hanley's Universe
- Midtown Comics
- Forbidden Planet
- Toy Tokyo
- Various interesting-sounding stores around St Marks Place

As some of you know, I've been to NYC before. I've already done the Cloisters (very cool!) and the Met Museum (great for arms & armour).

Are there any other places in town that might appeal to the dork side of the force?

I've never been there, but Neutral Ground is a big gaming facility, which I first heard about during the early days of M:tG.
Hi, Mike ;)

Thanks for the suggestion. I went to Neutral Ground once before many years ago. I don't know if it has changed but when I was there, it was more of an RPG club than a store. I didn't have the chance to play that time and won't have the opportunity this time either so I'll need to think about whether or not to go round.

Yeah...I get the sense it's where a lot of tournaments get played (card games, minis games, even board games, and it now looks like they do LAN games), rather than being primarily devoted to being a store.

I've always wanted to go to the Compleat Strategist, just because it's been around so long (I remember seeing ads for it in the first Dragon magazines I bought, back in the early 1980s).

You might want to look into seeing a Broadway show. Wicked is very good (and is, fundamentally, a fantasy story). Young Frankenstein's also playing (though I think it's gotten mixed reviews).

Nyc

http://www.evolutionnyc.com/ Cool store -

The Lazer Park is closing soon, never been ther, but they have a Battletech game with the old PODs. It's in Times square.

http://www.eerie.com/ - jekyll and hyde club, the one near central park is cooler (only cash and american express) - it's very very much for tourists. The jekyll and hyde Pub near the village is ok, the Slaughtered Lamb has an ok S&M night, don't know if it's still around ( you ask how is this geeky? think evil priestess inspirations, watch out for the Lady of the House, she is touchy feeling and made me icky.)

Comic Con is coming April 18-20th and Bodies is an interesting exhibition to see.

The Museum of Natural History is a fav of mine. The Intrepid is out for repairs, so that sucks.

You can check out my wife's old store Gothic Renaissance and Halloween Adventure, which is right near Forbidden Planet. They have some cool props, just watch out for the vampire clan people.

If you have a ride, I would check out the mansions in Westchester, or go to Sleepy Hollow.

That's all I can think of right now.

Plenty of sightseeing. I always love to take pictures of old buildings and use them as props in my games. ;)
Thanks for the suggestion ;) but if I wanted to take pictures of old buildings, I could do that from where I am now: I live in a city that's about 2000 years old! :D
