Also the DM's problem wasn't with summoning, so much as it was that the character was using an incredibly broken feat to make his summons into overpowered monstrosities.
In fact, I feel a bit of "bait-n-switch" going on here. The feat in question is broken, no two ways about it. That's a different thread than "my DM is being unreasonable with a new house rule".
