This keeps happening, why? No, really... why?

It might sound a little strange but our obssesion with elves and cat people really come down to there idealysed sex appeal.

Wow I feel like I shouldn't post this

The part dragon is just for the power and cool factor.

As for other races well, it be nice to have some that have Int, Wis or Cha modifiers wouldn't it.

I am also sick to death of the whole "One race, one culture." thing.

Don't have that in my campaigns. Elves are a species, but the "subtypes" are cultural rather then biological. More specifically, one species of Elf/Fae came to the campaign world, got stuck there, then settled different regions and deveolped along different lines.

Environment plays a part in behavior as well as genes, philosophy aside. One way of breathing and eating does is not mean one way of thinking.

The annoying thing about a lot of home-brewed "Cat-folk" is when their creators come up with a whole laundry list of traits they've witnessed in their own cats and try to stat them out for the race. Things like "Soothing Purr (Ex): A cat-folk's purr has the effects of a Calm Emotions spell (DC 12+Charisma bonus)". They wind up having a list of racial traits that's twice as long as any PC race.

I have created my own dog race, cat race, half-dragon/wolf creature, and *sigh* yes a race with the Elven Subtype. I'll post links to them below.

Huskaen: Humanoid Alaskan Huskies.
Faelyn: Halfling-sized Humanoid Felines with a never-ending variety, and pattern, of fur colors.
Half-Dragon (Silver)/Wolf: I haven't come up with a name for this creature yet. As the name right now implies, though, they are half-dragon.
Taur'fei: This is my half-elf/half-minotaur race. (Physical Description: The Taur’fei are still generally Minotaur-like in appearance but their face is less bestial, and appears more elven with an elf's pointed ears just in front of, and below a smaller set of horns that look the same as a minotaur's only smaller. They have less body hair than a Minotaur, though they are still pretty furry, and have no tail. Their legs appear the same as a minotaur’s legs do.)

My twitch is making a humanoid race based on an almost-universally non-social animal... and almost universally giving it Charisma bonuses.

If it doesn't become a ferocious villager-terrorizing monster, why bother? :)

Just have some big cats in the game world with telepathy: bam! Done. And they can still be villager-terrorizers!

Overall, I think the race/culture integration is what makes such things most dull (and can often make the standard races dull, as well). If they are something totally different from humans at the core, then they'll be separate. But otherwise, they'll be mixed right in, probably down to having their own sections in cities, like having an asian or italian district.

One thing to always deal with is, "why are these things here?" 'Because' won't make for a convincing and flavorful race to use.
