This weekend at the box office - 10.03.2005

Hand of Evil

Hero
Epic
Serenity is the best movie out and really should be getting more dollars, it is that good. I can only hope it keeps pulling in the same amount for awhile and have to wonder if the move to so late in the year hurt it.

Estimated ticket sales for Sept. 30 - Oct 2

1. “Flightplan,” $15 million
2. “Serenity,” $10.1 million
3. “Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride,” $9.8 million
4. “A History of Violence,” $8.2 million
5. “Into the Blue,” $7 million
6. “Just Like Heaven,” $6.1 million
7. “The Exorcism of Emily Rose,” $4.4 million
8. “Roll Bounce,” $4 million
9. “The Greatest Game Ever Played,” $3.75 million
10. “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” $3.1 million.

I seem to compare movies to the last movie I went, so here is my ranking of the movies I have seen so far THIS YEAR. This is personal taste and this list will change as movies come out.

3. Batman Begins
4. Star Wars: RotS
5. Sin City - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - The Brothers Grimm
6. The Hitchhiker’s Guide
7. The Pacifier
8. Fantastic Four - Sahara
9. Constantine
10. Kingdom of Heaven

I think that decimal place should be over 1 place to the right.

Anyway I read it did what analysts expected so take that how you may. Maybe it will be number 1 this week. Week 2 will tell you how long it will be in the theaters.

I'll be seeing Corpse Bride long before I see Serenity. Then Wallace and Gromitt.... then maybe some comedy. Then if still out, Serenity. I guess I've got the anti-Josh thing down as his stuff has never impressed me.

Gas prices have to have something to do with it, people are cutting out things like movies to fill up the tanks.

Okay, I have to find it to quote it, but a studio executive finally admitted that's not the reason people aren't going to movie. They are going down because movies are crap.

Now if they would only admit that about TV, especially reallity TV when the top 10 shows have 9 dramas!

Have a good one! Take care!

I thought Serenity did very well, considering the competition. Jodie Foster playing an upset mom? Yeah, that'll drag the dates into the theatre. But I was worried that the Alba skin festival that was 'Out of the Blue' (or is that 'Out of Ideas?') would trump 'Serenity', but fortunately, patrons showed taste this weekend.

I'm just wondering if there'll be a sequel? $100 million is fairly decent for an opening weekend in October.

I agree movies have been bland and cookie cutter this year but pocket money for the movie going demographic is becoming hard to come by and it is interesting to compare the increase of gas prices to the decrease in box office takes.

Thought this was interesting...

Serenity - 52 percent of the audience was over 30 years old and 61 percent was male.

Into the Blue - 71 percent under 25 and 51 percent male.
