Three feet of hewn stone, who can break it?

With a strength prestige class, sure that might be possible...

Yep. :D

The Mighty Contender of Kord would be the best PrC for this. They get to add their PrC levels to their character level when determining their bonus from the Strength Domain, they get an added +1 to Strength (which stacks with everything), and they get to add one and a half times their level to the strength enhancement. So you have a Half-Orc Brb9/Clr1/Might Contender10. Do everything that you do above, but this time he gets +40 from the Strength domain. That gives him 75 Str.
(20 base + 5 levels + 5 Tome + 4 Rage + 1 PrC + 40 domain)

Why 75 and not 81? Because the +6 enhancement bonus from the Belt of Giant's Strength doesn't stack with the +40 enhancement bonus from the Strength domain.

And that 75 Strength lasts for 1d4+1 rounds. That's a +32 to his Strength checks, to hit, and damage. But sadly, he still needs to roll an 18 or better to break through that slab of stone.

To get this higher, you'll need to take levels as something like a Dragon Disciple. Consider a Brb3/Clr1/Sor1/Dragon Disciple5/Mighty Contender10. This would get you a 79 strength. (Possibly an 87 Str if your DM allows the Dragon Disciple to gain the +8 enlargement bonus to Str from becoming Large.)

Now he'll only need a 16 (or 12 with 87 Strength) or better. But he can just take 20. ;)

Thank you for watching this edition of RogueJK's Strength Smackdown. Be sure to tune in next time when we'll take a look at a Barbarian/Cleric/Frenzied Berserker/Mighty Contender of Kord.

I was under the impression that the strength domain ability was only your cleric levels not any other levels. But, I also hadn't thought of the Mighty Contender...? where is that by the way it sounds familier. hmm... thanks.!

The Strength domain's ability is based off of character level.

And the Mighty Contender of Kord can be found in Dragon Magazine #283, pages 46-47.

[Edit] This got me hooked. I'm going to have to play a character like that sometime... Something like a Brb8/Clr2/Mighty Contender10. That gets him Rage 3/day, Uncanny Dodge (Dex to AC and Can't be Flanked), Fast Movement, the Strength and Luck domains, and the spellcasting abilities of a 7th level cleric, along with all of the PrC abilites. So that's it then, you would have to do it that way, not necessarily a Half-orc though, but you could do it... hmm, very interesting, any other ways?

How about a 7th level wizard?

Polymorph self to Umber Hulk, tear a hole in wall.

(Just *how* the various tunneling creatures get to tunnel so quickly through solid rock is never actually explained...)

The goal here is to come up with a way to break through the wall, basically just bust it down, like a door or something, but with a 50 DC... it gets complicated.

Another way to do this would be to use a Clr1/Brb4/Mighty Contender10/Frenzied Berserker5. This will get you an 81 Strength. This choice is actually better in this situation, unless your DM allows the Dragon Disciple to gain the enlargement bonus to Strength.

Frenzy adds +6 to your strength, and stacks with Rage. But this character will miss out on the +4 bonus to strength from the Dragon Disciple. The Frenzied Berserker's +6 to strength only lasts for 3+Con rounds, though, while the Dragon Disciple's +4 to strength is permanent.

I haven't seen the Berserker class from D&Dg, though. It might have a way to get the strength a little higher...

here's another interesting thing, Kord, the God, has to use magic to be as powerful as one of his Mighty Contenders if they use thier special abilities, and when I say powerful, I mean as strong. That's kind of sad.

Okay... I've done some more math, and squeezed a few more points of strength out of the character. :D I'm pretty sure this is a strong as a PHB race, using only WotC PrCs and items (and no spells or Psionics), can get. But I might be wrong... ;)

Half-Orc Clr1/Brb1/Ftr2/Sor1/Dragon Disciple4/Frenzied Berserker1/Mighty Contender of Kord10

Strength of 85. That's a +37 modifier.
(20 base + 5 levels + 5 Tome + 4 Dragon Disc. + 4 Rage + 6 Frenzy +1 Mighty Contender + 40 Strength domain)

This last for a total of 1d4+1 rounds. After that, it drops to a score of 45. After 3+Con rounds, it drops to the character's normal score of 35.

Now he only needs to roll a 13.

I'll probably stat this guy out, figure out his AC, saves, BAB, and damage, and post him in the Sultans of Smack thread.
