Through the Ages (OOC)

Phoenix

First Post
Well, it seems that since my last PbP game is still going strong, I'm now thinking of starting a second (and perhaps a third if this second one goes well).

Before I detail what the game will be about, I highly suggest you check out my other game to see what type of game I prefer running and other bits and pieces. My preference towards individual characters over min/max or hack/slash stands in this game, I would prefer to see a well created Commoner1 than a statted out Fighter10.

Now we've got that all out of the way....

There was only void in the beginning, if you could call it a beginning for not even time was said to exist. Then the Overlord stepped forth from nothingness, creating himself in order to begin life in a lifeless place. The Overlord spoke and the universe spoke back.

Upon his worlds he created life, allowing it to grow and prosper, and amongst the animals and plants he created The First. These were the Gods that he entrusted his creation with, for now that he had completed his task, he knew that such a fragile existance could not tolerate a power such as he. To these Gods he would give the immortality and power to look over his children, and protect his creation.

And so the first gods looked upon the Overlords creation after he did leave, playing and frolicking amidst the worlds that were theirs. But there were few of them, and with an eternity ahead of them they wished others to accompany them and live alongside them in harmony.

Each of the Gods formed a people in their own image, creating a people that could enjoy the creation of the Overlord with them. These were the first true mortals, or those that the later generations would call The Paragons. Legends would be told of their power and accomplishments, many would whisper that some of them still walked amongst us, playing an eternal game that only they knew the rules to, a dance in which only they could hear the music.

Through the Ages will be a game with a unique perspective (I hope) and is an experiment on my behalf. I am seeking FOUR players (NOT first in, best dressed) to join this game, and each will be required to meet the following prereqs:

- Must be able to post once every 1-2 days (if you have something you know is coming up at the start of the game, don't apply! I can accept once the game gets going a bit, but at the start it is REALLY annoying and I'll probably ask for another player to replace you.)

- Must be focused more on Storytelling than Combat. I don't mean you shouldn't be prepared for combat or to not create a Fighter, just don't expect a great deal of fighting.

Apart from that the game will be based initially on the exploit of four elves (all PCs will be elves, not drow or half-elves, elves...you'll see why) at the beginning of time after their deity creates them. The entire story will slowly chronicle their adventures through their Immortal lives, allowing PCs to shape the events of history as they unfold.

Character Creation
Apart from a really good character background (yes I understand it will probably be quite short, but make it good anyway) all characters will be created as:

Character Level: 2
Race: Elven
Alignment: Chaotic good (though alignments will change during play)
Ability Score Buy: 42pts
Equipment: Very little indeed, be creative and realistic, remember the world is young, as is magic and technology.

There is only one Elven Deity at this point, which will be named Rylanth. The other gods will be created as seen fit within the story, or within your own backgrounds. Remember that racial bigotry is yet to exist.

One last thing...no human gods, no humans (yet).

Lets see what you people have

Oooh, oooh, oooh, can I play a human? ;)

Looks interesting, and Metropolis has been fun, but I might be overextending myself. I'll lurk for a bit. Good luck though.

What, don't wanna go for Fifteen? Ohhh.....

I'm thinking that if this doesn't pan out I might have to run a second Metropolis adventure, I'm kinda liking it....

I'd like to join this one. I'm usually no big fan of elves, but I really liked the consept here. I'm not sure what type of character to play yet though. Will try to come up with a consept today.
Oh, and what sources do you allow? Like, are base classes from the Complete series allowed?

I dunno really, sell me on it and I'll be flexible I guess....you're supposed to be Paragons and all.....

I'm thinking a Spirit Guide from CD. Someting in the line of

Filustri Ma'nier

A tall, regal female elf. She is calculating, always moving with a purpose. Filustri recently discovered there were spirits in the newly created world, and she made it her purpose to commune with these spirits, to know their purpose, to make them her allies, acting as a bridge between the spirit world and the world of the elves. Her spirit guide is that of an Crane, representing Balance and Majesty.

The problem with using those books is that I do not have them where I am (I've moved to Canada for 6 months). So while I don't object to them, I don't actually have their resources myself, so you'll have to clue me in.

Spirit shaman:
Master of the spirit world, the spirit shaman follows a different divine tradition than the cleric or the druid. Her world is filled with powerful, living spirits, some helpful and some malign. By bargaining with these spirits, the spirit shaman gains power over the natural world and mighty divine magic wich to aid her comrades or smite her enemies.

They gain their spells from the spirits of nature, and are mainly nature-oriented.
Whats special with the Spirit shaman though, is the way she cast spells. Each day the Spirit shaman must meditate 1 hour to Retrieve her spells. She can choose to Retrieve spells from the Druid spell list. The spells she Retrieves acts as her Spells Known list for that day. She can then cast the spells like a sorcerer, without the need to prepare them beforehand.

As a 2nd level spirit shaman, I can retrieve three level 0 spells and two level 1 spells. When I meditate, I then choose what 3 level0 and two level2 spells to Retrieve. For the rest of that day, I can only cast those spells. The next day, I can choose new spells to Retrieve.

I hope that wasn't too confusing

I think this would be an amazing game, I run an all halfling game that is really dynamic and I find cohesive parties really work well in this way. Gives more initial structure to the game and group.

I'd like to play a noble elven warrior, strong of heart and mind. A paragon of freedom and good.

If I detailed the optional chaotic paladin from UA, would that be okay?

Yeah sure, I know the classes that you guys are talking about, just don't have the details of them in front of me (they are all half-way across the world).

And I hope you know what you guys are getting into ;)
