Tiny preview for Scarrport: City of Secrets

Yeah I sort of suck at names. I wanted something simple, and memorable. I've written other stuff in the past, and have used some pretty wild names and people have said that the names are too hard to remember. So I wanted to keep the naming conventions fairly straight-forward with this one.

That said, If you have a suggestion for a better name than Dark Wood, I'll certainly consider it.

How about the name Shadowveil? or The Shapeless Forest?

Shadowveil is basic dark forest name, and the Shapeless Forest hints at the shapeshifters hiding inside

The load time, however, probably needs to be discussed.

I think making them Load minor might be alright, and a feat at higher tiers might even reduce it to Load free.

The issue though, is that, even though there's more involved with reloading muskets, you're still loading 6 rounds into a 6-gun, and (I think) 8 into a winchester'esque weapon.

well as someone that has played wild west games...and had to put up with gun nits in said game...I know a little bit

if you want realistic
6 shooters in the real world come a couple of ways

1st the bullets: are they in brass or paper? becuse belive it or not they still had black powder six shooters

2nd the mechanics of the gun...single action or double action
singel action: basicly this means you need to pull the hammer back in order to prep the next shot
double action: when you pull the trigger it turns the cilinder and pulls back the hammer itself...

so here are my thoughs...
black powder guns would only re load during short rests

brass cartiges should be load 1 minor...load all 3 as a standard

single action: Minnor to switch to next chamber...
double action: just keep fireing till your out of ammo...

if you want just for playbility:
since powers allow you to ignore these things...fire a crossbow at everyone in close blast 3 (rouge blinding barrage) it might not need reload rules...

Races: Ghodon. Otterkin, Gremlins, Eladrin and Tieflings are inclined to become elementalists, but there is a strong tradition of extended elementalism in Halfling and Elven cultures as well as a large number of clashing elementalists among the Dwarves.

Are they new player races in the book? if so any chance for a preview, particularly the Gremlin?

Thats pretty freaking cool, I like this race. Maybe my Gm will let me play for his next game.

Also do you guys have any idea when its coming out? Either in PDF or Print?

I'm hoping to have this beast ready for release in PDF format right around the 15th.

Print will take longer, but I'm hoping to have it in stores by Gencon.

The 15th of March? SWEET!!! I am definately going to be picking up the book in at least PDF format as soon as it hits RPGNOW (barring lack of funds of course). An clue as to the page count or a hint at the price? Also are you working on anything to expand the setting? (I really want to hear more about the Gremlin city of gears!)

The PDF will likely be priced around 12.95.

I use a pretty standard formula for pdfs: Roughly 1 dollar for every 10 pages, and right now it's looking to be about 125 pages, though, once I get into layout, that may very well change. Gotta make power cards, add artwork, etc...

I won't ever charge more than 14 bucks for a PDF though. In my experience, nobody buys them at that price, at least not from a third party publisher such as myself. Plus, 14/15 bucks is expensive for a PDF, especially when I'm planning on going into print with this title.

As far as the City of Gears is concerned. Right now it's just a concept. I haven't had much time to really get into any development work for it. But you never know :)

thanks for your interest!

Yep. :)

The next Campaign Cutout will follow the same format as Scarrport (though I'm not sure about a character class yet, we'll see if my team can come up with something unique and relevant), and will have references to the city/region.

Though it'll be designed to drop into anyone's game, you'll be able to use it in conjunction with Scarrport, no problem.

Additionally I'll be doing smaller PDFs that detail other regions around Scarrport, such as the Hellfury peaks.

You'll see some adventures as well.
