Tiny versions of 1E books?

Gnome

First Post
I remember way back when, some company made itty-bitty versions of many of the old 1st-edition AD&D books. Does anyone know if these are still sold anywhere? I wasn't able to find them on eBay, at least (though it's possible I didn't use the right search text).

It would be fun to have these for nostalga and perhaps portable gaming.

How itty-bitty? Are you talking about the brown cover boxed set books?

No, I mean the actual unabridged AD&D 1E Player's Handbook, DMG, Monster Manual, etc. shrunk down to a few inches long and wide. I don't remember exact dimentions, but they were small enough to probably fit in a pocket (though probably not really comfortably).

I did come across one on ebay once, so they do exist. (It was the monster manual I believe) Admittedly, I figured it was just someone being clever with a shrunken down PDF copy. Dont know if they were produced for real.

My local game store has a few of these books left, as well as some of the mini-box sets that were released. I can't remember which titles they have exactly, I remember seeing the Dark Sun Boxed set, Oriental Adventures and Dragonlance Adventures.
If I recall there was a problem with some of the bindings and the majority of the print run had to be destroyed and only a few made it into circulation.

The game stores web page is : http://www.comic-encounters.com/ and I know they do a lot of mail orders. Their online catalogue isn't up yet, but you can contact them by E-Mail

They were produced in 1999 and 2000, under a license from WotC, by an Italian print company, I believe. They are about 3" x 4" and black and white. Except for circa-1999 TSR emblem on the inside front cover, they are exact replicas of the original books. I bought the Player's Handbook, Greyhawk Adventures, Dragonlance Adventures, DMG, and Monster Manual back at Gencon 2000.

Don't even think of using them for gaming, because you will KILL your eyesight and cause yourself migraines looking at it - it's that small. However, it's still quite legible.

Yeah, I got a complete set of these a few years back. They're pretty cool, in a totally useless and impractical way. The text is legible, but so small that you can't seriously read any great amount of it at once - as mentioned above, you will kill your eyesight.

If you want a set of 1e books for actual use, you can probably get second hand copies for the same price as I paid for these books (I think it worked out to about £4 per book, but that was a few years back, and I don't remember exactly). If you want something cool for discussion purposes, these are pretty good.
