Tired of d20 yet?

Switch to another game. Even I can't play D&D all the time.

You just aren't trying hard enough!!

Truthfully, with a good group of friends to play D&D with, I can see myself never having need or want of another system. D&D isn't perfect, but the people I game with are always more important then the game.

[Un]Fortunately, my group have various gaming backgrounds and interests.

I'm tired of not having a group big enough for d20 D&D. I really still like the game, but there are only 2 other people who show up week-in & week-out. The other 2 are unreliable, and 1 other has quit altogether (unless and until we run D&D "his way"--which I intend to do--right after I ice skate to Hell!). Added to the 2 that moved away, and there's a real dearth of players. Males it hard for me to run D&D 3.5. I tried it with them playing 2 characters each and adding some classes from other d20 games, but it just fizzled out. We made it through 2 adventures of The Shackled City. But even now at "just" 5th-6th level, it feels like an arms race in a war of attrition. I just couldn't run the next inevitable dungeon crawl right away.

Fortunately, 1 of the 2 offered to run Systems Failure. He is a really good GM in the Palladium system. I don't know how he does it (I couldn't), but I am kind of looking forward to it this week and for a few more weeks. Of course, I would rather play his Omega World d20 or Star Wars d20 games, but he's excited about Systems Failure.

I think I might offer up a little Judge Dredd 20 next. I really like that game. Sadly, I am probably the only one.

Otherwise, I may try to convert a D&D d20 module to Savage Worlds.

Failing that, I'm kind of out of ideas for an RPG that fits this group of 1d3+1 players.

Lemme think...nope.

Finding yourself wandering more and more often to other games?
Now this one is tougher. Wait, no it's not. Nope.

I'm happy with D20. Conan, Midnight, Blue Rose, D20 Modern, T20 Traveller, Black Company or standard D&D, it's all good.

No, in fact I wish all games would hurry up and convert to D20. That way, when people like me want to try a different setting, they can easily transition without having to learn a bunch of bull. High is always better, Skill + Ability Modifier + a D20 is always the roll, opposed rolls, it all works intuitively now.

Give me Shadowrun D20. Give me Lovercraftian D20. Give me Star Wars D20... ok, I haven't seen this last product yet but the point remains the same: One easy system that everyone is familair with makes a great platform upon which other settings may play.

Shriek!!!!!!!

Happy to oblige, Psion. :D

darkelfo - Other than the "+ a d20", there are a number of games that have worked this way for years, decades even. Runequest, Rolemaster, HARP, Call of Cthulhu, etc... The only real difference being that none of the were associated with the "D&D" name.

Never played those, though I have seen a number of inelegant game systems in my day: Rifts, Shadowrun d6, Vampire the Masquerade, and AD&D. I had no idea that others were using d20 before DnD 3.0. If so I applaud them the way a Windows user applauds Apple Computer Co.

I really dig the d20 system and have been quite pleased that OGL system has brought about a new age in DnD publishing. I've enjoyed quite a number of quality non-WOTC gaming products for DnD.

Finally, some attornies somewhere loosened their sphincters for long enough to relialize that maximal intellectual property protection is not always the way to success. Here's to open systems.

Nope. In fact although I've had D20 Modern for many many moons now (and more than a couple other d20-based games like Traveller d20, Star Wars d20, and Mutants & Mastermineds) I have just in the past week or two begun work with it that I've been threatening to do for ages. I'm working on some adaptation rules for a campaign based on X-Com:UFO Defense. I'm actually intending to buy a couple of additional D20 sourcebooks for the purpose of filling in what d20 modern alone doesn't quite cover. I may never run it but now that I've actually started on it in earnest I ought to be able to eventually have a rather comprehensive "sourcebook" for it.

And I'm still running D&D. And I'm actually LESS interested in looking to RPG's outside of D20. It is, however, very conceiveable that d20 is NOT the best choice for ALL RPG's so don't get me wrong on that score (tho' someone surely will). It's just that right now I personally have no desire or use for such.
