Tired of d20 yet?

I love D&D, but the Eberron setting might breath more life into it for me and several other players.

However, I also play/run Dragonquest (In a living campaign and home campaigns), 7th Seas (Another living campaign), and occasionaly experiment in other games.

I'm not tired of D20 and certainly not tired of D&D I've got more then 6 versions of D&D to choose from after all. I never stopped playing other rpgs either- I've played Gamaworld and GURPS and Boothill and others in recent years. I could see getting tired of a campaign or tired of a gaming group. My campaign is on hiatus after about 4 years of play and I've been gaming with the same guys for 15-30 years now so I'm pretty patient.

Tired of d20 D&D system yet? Finding yourself wandering more and more often to other games?
I do find myself wandering to other systems, but it's always been that way for me, not something because of d20. I'm loving Ars Magica 5th edition, am looking forward to GMing some fast and furious Savage Worlds games, and still love GMing the old Marvel Superheroes RPG.

I'm not tired of d20 per se, but I am seriously sick of many D&Disms. After using the magic system in Arcana Unearthed, D&D's magic system feels horribly clunky and unbalanced. After playing 3.x, how would you feel about going back to AD&D 2nd edition rules? That's how I feel about D&D 3.x magic. I'm also sick unto death of the magic item "christmas tree effect", and combat that at times can be overly technical and uncinematic.

Yes and yes!
I'm not really a big D20 lover, though I still like sword and sorcery. D20 class system, HP, AoO, and Prestige Classes are getting older and older. That said, maybe I'm just to anxious to get WFRP up and running and give D20/D&D a break.

Not so's you would notice. It has never been my favorite game system, but it is one that I get to play rather than just read.

It also seems to work better for long running campaigns than some other systems that I have encountered, so there is little reason to change.

That's sort of a tricky question. First, it's ambiguous as to topic: D20 System in general, or the specific D&D3[.5]E instantiation (and closely-related versions)? Second, it has that lovely ambiguity that makes the "have you stopped beating your wife?" question work.

So, to answer as best as i can:
I was tired of D&D3E the minute i read it. Then i played it and discovered many of my dislikes were imagined--and that i had much stronger dislikes for several other areas that really were part of the game. The more i played it, the more i found to dislike.

D20 System, OTOH, i've only just begun to like, 'cause it took several years for any D20 System products that i liked to hit the market. I think 2003 was the first of them, and last year was the first year with really quite a few of them (and the first time i paid cover price for a D20 System book). I'm just beginning to really warm up to D20 System, precisely because more and more products are moving away from D&D3E.

So, i find myself wandering more and more to D20 System. Currently, my only ongoing campaign is D20 System. And i still won't voluntarily touch D&D3[.5]E.

Yes... oh lord YES... I'm so tired. I need a soft bed and a pillow to beat up with my head.

But D20? Oh heavens no, I love the system!!! Forgotten Realms, Scarred Lands, Kingdoms of Kalamar, Gamma World, D20 Modern, Darwin's World, Midnight, gimme more!

Though I think I will be running an old game system called ShatterZone in about 5 months. ;)

G'night. :)

Yeah, tired of D&D and a little tired of d20 as well. Gonna be playing some WFRP 2e for a bit, and then maybe try to get some people to play a little Ars Magica.
