TITANSGRAVE Episode 2 - Evil Awakens

The second episode of Wil Wheaton's Titansgrave web series went live earlier this evening. "Join Aankia (Hank Green), Kiliel (Alison Haislip), Lemley (Laura Bailey), and S’Lethkk (Yuri Lowenthal) in the second installment of Titansgrave: Ashes of Valkana. When we last saw our heroes, the beer had been saved and celebrations had ensued. The Beer Baron, having made the last stop in his yearly delivery trip, asks the party to escort his caravan to his estate. Aankia, Kiliel, Lemley, and S’Lethkk find themselves surrounded not only by the rarest of beers, but also by a threat so ancient that it hasn’t been seen since the days of the Chaos Wars. How will our heroes handle themselves? create is no more damaging than the weakest evocation, but many other effects are possible."

I liked the artwork to aid in visualising the environment. But I actually didn't like the postproduction combat visuals. Will's description of the tactical situation was so weak, I was left with nothing but the combat visual. I actually would have been happier with nothing and so that the whole thing plays out as Theatre of the mind.

This summarises very well how episode 2 left me feeling. It was on the whole allot better than either 0,1. It flowed very well, good genuine humour and even though still very specific encounters had to occur (railroad) i personally felt the players were allowed more freedom to actually be involved.

However your example of Will's terrible description of combat is but 1 of the reasoning behind my constant point that this is not a show about Role playing games. Now before i start some massive argument i'm not trying to be an elitist prick, perhaps by definition it is a role playing game, but even tho humorous I still did not once see one of the voice characters get into character, most the humour is provided in out of game back and forth between the actors, the description of combat was poor, even when they fight the energy boss at the end of the brewery i felt he could of done allot more to play it up. I also felt miserable for the rogue elf when she steals the dead bird, most imaginative true classic RPG scene in titansgrave so far, distract and steal the npc's shi and all she got is a dead bird, another miss oppurunty by Will i felt, over all tho with the great production the one thing Ill give Weaton is that the episode at least flowed well in 2 and didn't have me throaming at the mouth in the half-assery, just disappointed that clearly his idea of role playing is very different to mine :(

There were a few things again that sat poorly with me, like one of his players being attacked in mele to that round draw a blaster and shoot at another monster without their being any negative effects for ignoring the guy trying to bite you, perhaps deliberate but things like that stick in my head even if its a bit nit picky!

Overall though hes giving me hope this might turn into an interesting show maybe, im hoping as we get a few episodes in and the story develops the players will have more chance to lead the story or atleast let them take it off on a sideshow every so often and Will dealing with that opposed to it feeling completely linear regardless of the characters individual backgrounds. If he could also add in some better descriptions, the settings amazing, they've got amazing pictures to back it up, I just wish he wasn't dependent on them, when the DM describes a place thats the most exciting part for the imagination!!.

One thing about watching a web show is that we get to see how other people run games at their table. The format of the show truncates the experience for time, so it's not the same as watching in on an entire session, but it's a practical way to get a peek at what people do differently. My wife, my youngest son, and I just finished watching this episode, and she's interested in trying the system. He seems interested enough that he might play it at GenCon, a convention trip that he wasn't too excited about before.

So regardless of the nitpicks that we experienced gamers may have about how it's run or played, or the game system or setting, the production values of the show gives it amazing potential for getting more casual gamers excited about tabletop RPGs. Get people who are on the fence about RPGs to watch and they might just get the urge to chuck some dice.

The character which you made in this Titansgrave episode-2 was amazing.I am always excited to see this series. I like the animation in that like you use 3D motion graphics. Its helping me in my project, because I am doing 3d motion graphics in New York. By working on this platform the animation will improve the skill. So keep it up and give us more episode to enjoy and for learning.
