The last thing any nation in the Forgotten Realms would want is an Enlarged, Maximized, Doubled (and God knows what else, for Larloch has 14 extra spell slot levels to work with) Apocalypse from the Sky spell thrown on them.

Heyyy...there's a question.

Is the ability damage suffered from a Corrupt spell a 'variable, numeric' part of the spell?

If you Maximize it do you suffer maximum damage?

Oooh, good snag there Drnuncheon. I hadn't considdered that before.

Hmm.. I'd probably have to say yeah - increase the variable to other people from a corrupt spell also increases the variable to you. Which makes sense.. it's detrimental to the caster to cast the spell at X power, it should be 1.5X more detrimental to the cast the spell at power 1.5X

As far as I can tell, it's about Edena ranting about Denev's Fury being an overpowered spell, though he overlooks the limitations and massive XP cost involved... makes me wonder if people actually read and ANALYZE the rules before they complain about them.

Have a sense of humor, guys.

Say something funny.

Edena had a BAB of + 20. Real good in 2nd Edition, nothing to write home about in 3rd Edition.

Wait... BAB +20. Which is what a 20th-level fighter has... and this is "nothing to write home about?"

Edena had the equivalent of a Fortitude save of + 14, a Will save of + 16, and a Reflex save of about + 13. Nice in 2nd Edition, not so effective in 3rd Edition. (He would never have made his save against a dragon's breath weapon in 3rd Edition!)

+14, +16, +13 and you think those suck? There average monk would have a +15 or so for each at 20th...

Edena had 250 hit points. Very nice, but in 3rd Edition many monsters can easily beat that. Epic Monsters, especially.

I have rarely met characters with 250 hit points. A 20th-level fighter with a 20 Con would have to get good hp rolls to have 250 hp.

Vile Magic is Magic, no?
And Magic, is sentient in FR, no?
And that sentience, is Mystra, no?

The fabric if magic is a part of Mystra's being, but it is not sentient. If it was, then Mystra would be an unstoppable deity, able to determine an enemy's plan whenever they cast a spell.

And by your reasoning.. Animate Dead, Protection From Good and all those [Evil] spells would not work in Forgotten Realms, because Mystra's neutral good alignment would stop it.

So, a part of Mystra's sentience is based on something so foul and awful that to even attempt the least comprehension of it is damning for mortals!

Vile magic is not a part of Mystra's sentience. What makes her sentient is the fact that she is a living, thinking being.

Please try to state things properly in an argument, else your weak point will be buried in all the nonsense you spout.

If being Mystra being good limited magic, then every evil spell on Toril would cease to function.

Also... as someone else already stated... there is NO Vile magic in any official Forgotten Realms products, so it has no direct impact on the setting.

What is this thread about?
More like, what WAS this thread about?

This thread WAS meant humorously, when I discovered a very powerful spell in Relics and Rituals and ribbed it.
And, of course, I compared it to my munckinized character and to some spells often thought of as overpowered, and made some comparisons. However, I did not really intend any of it seriously.

So, what is this thread about NOW?
It is a serious thread about how my character is unreasonable, how I have an unreasonable attitude towards certain aspects of things related to Gaming - unreasonable enough to argue about the matters, at least, and it is about (on a serious basis) whether or not Mystra is good or not, whether the BOVD relates to Forgotten Realms, and other serious matters.

In other words, this thread is totally ruined.

It is a shame, really.
The rules of ENWorld forbid me from being specific, but I would daresay that right now, of all times, there are enough serious and grim things happening in the Real World, that one should consider taking Anything Gaming with a heavy dose of salt, and find humor wherever possible within it.
For God knows there is little enough humor in what is going on IRL.

Yet this is not happening. Nor will it happen, apparently.
