I work 12 hour days starting in an hour until 7:00 Tuesday night, at which time we'll be promptly heading out for the Big Easy until around the 29th. Posting will be slow until Tuesday, and probably nothing after that until we get back. I'll be taking a laptop with me, so if I can get some access out there in the country I'll be able to post from there--otherwise I'll see you all when I get back.

I should be able to post for Carolina until Monday at least, then feel free to NPC her afterwords.[/sblock]
 

Georg rushes forward, closing the distance between them. He swings his staff towards the humans and a larger burst of flame envelopes them all. The unarmed man and two of the men dodge the blast, but another two of them are burned by the dwarf's explosion.

Kruk, his bloodlust building charges the other enemy and slams his axe down on the man's chest dropping the last archer as well.

The man appears unfazed by the assault and disappearance of his allies. He sighs and just mutters, "Never get a human to do our job, ah well didn't need them anyways." as he begins to distort his appearance and that of a nightmarish shade is in its place. Kruk feels an icy grip around his strong dwarven heart and knows true terror at the sight of this. He immediately turns back the way he came as fast as he legs can carry him.

Kruk then sees what can only be described as liquid shadow detach itself from the shadows of the scrub to the south. It moves through the air without wings and it passes through the adventurers, its shadowy form moving too quickly for them to attack. Strange, alien appendages shoot out from it and stab into Grim and Lily, but Carolina ducks under the assault. You feel cold, not just cold actually, the absence of feeling as if this creature were attacking your very soul. It then continues onwards back into the scrub to the north.

Man hits Kruk's "impressive" will :p for 8 psychic dmg and the dwarf runs away. He moves south.

Creature appears from bushes to south. Shifts to current location and it attacks Grim, Carolina, and Lily as it passes. Hits Grim & Lily for 6 & 9 respectively. It currently has cover.

As the shadowy thing creeps back into the brush, Carolina draws her crossbow and fires.

Lily flinched back from its hollow touch, the look on her face though was not one of fear, but of strange fascination. Unable to tear her eyes from the thing she fumbled around in her pack and drew out the skull she carried. Starting to come to her senses, Lily raised the skull high calling for the spirit she called Lith. Her shadow darkly sped across the ground and bloomed all teeth and hunger shapes in front of the other entity. As that happened she called out to the angry spirits to harass the creature.

Spirit companions are complex critters, so this is to remind everyone, myself included, of the important points. The first three items are probably the most relevant to the other players.
  • Any of Lily's allies who start their turn adjacent to her spirit companion can shift 1 square as a free action, as the first action during their turn.
  • Any of Lily's allies adjacent to her spirit companion gain a +3 bonus to their damage rolls against bloodied enemies.
  • Lily's spirit companion occupies 1 square, Lily's allies may move through its space, but her enemies may not.
  • Lily's spirit companion may be targeted by melee and ranged attacks. If a single attack deals 10 or more damage to Lily's spirit companion it disappears and Lily takes 5 damage. Otherwise her spirit companion is unaffected by the attack.
  • Lily's spirit companion uses Lily's defenses.
  • Any enemy that leaves a square adjacent to Lily's spirit companion without shifting is subject its Spirit Fang attack. (This is an opportunity action and so may used once per turn, rather than once per round. Since there is no reason not to take this attack DM please feel free to roll them as necessary.)
  • Lily's spirit companion is unaffected by terrain and environmental phenomena.

He pauses long enough to raise the point of his sword towards the one-eyed man and roar a war cry as he charges home. It was all blood and sharp steel.

Georg moves in a wide circle around the large shadow creature. He stops and swings his staff in a wide arc creating a great blaze just reaching the creature.
