Georg stands near Lily and her spirit companion while Raiyek gathers his strength, he feels his last few rejuvenating energies return. Following Kruk down, as the other dwarf looks on in puzzlement, Georg examines the runes carefully.

[sblock=OOC] Do I get 1d6 more hp back, how does this spirit thingie work?!?!

Rolls
Arcana 1d20+9=20

Georg studies the device and is struggling to determine the exact nature of the arcane glyphs and sigils, but Lily offers a few pointers she's picked up and between the two of you the nature of this device becomes clear.

As you finish your investigation, the blue glow expands and grows more into a door-sized opening, with a hazy vision of a what appear to be small, semi-permanent wooden structures built in scrublands. Georg and Lily know that this device will transport you to wherever the image is showing. Also, this is a a two-way device, one that will allow travel back through to Daunton.

[sblock=ooc]
Assume that you rested the couple of short rests for Lily to give you each the extra d6 on each surge used
[/sblock]

Let's explore this other area, since we can safely travel between Daunton and there. Eventually I will need to rest and study my spellbook.

[sblock=OOC] Perhaps an extended rest in the near future with a level 2 Georg afterwards!

Roll a healing 1d6=4 on one of those Healing Spirit puts Georg at max
[/sblock]

Raiyek eyes the portal with caution, and studies the view visible through it for a moment. He looks ... hesitant. "I'm unsure going through this portal is a good idea. Do we even have any idea where it leads?" the normally fearless paladin asks, his unease apparent.
[sblock=OOC]I was going to point out that the extra 1d6 for Lily's healing goes to whoever's adjacent to her spirit companion, but since the party is spending an even number of surges it can basically work out to an extra 1d6 for each surge we spend :) Extra Healing (2d6=4).

And now the question is ... where does the rabbit hole go? Do we recognize anything on the other side that might tell us where it leads?[/sblock]

Ay, there's the rub* None of the PC's would be familiar with this place, but a History check might help

*Anyone who hasn't seen Hamlet (Kenneth Branagh version) I highly recommend it.

Hamlet (1996)

[sblock=history check]
1d20+0=20 wow! how am I going to roleplay this one...
[/sblock]

Kruk, listening to the other talking about the strange machine, suddenly has a flashback to a conversation that he overheard where elder members of his clan talked about such a device. "Aye, everyone...I think I might be able to tell ya's a few things about a this device." He then goes tells the others what he knows...

(ooc: errr...what does he know :))
