To Catch a Crimelord, or Down the Rabbit Hole (garyh judging)

Well, what are we waiting for? says Georg in a gruff voice. He coughs heavily and clears his throat. Ack, sorry, must have gotten some nasty smoke in there. Let's move. He moves off towards the light as fast as his legs will carry him.

[sblock=OOC] Channeling Gimli there...[/sblock]

The group moves out, sans Grim, with the utmost haste as the 'High Priest' is conducting whatever fell business he is doing at the Standing Stones. After a few hours of hard travel and near sprinting that leaves the dwarves quite winded, being built for short sprints, not long distances, the group sees the small community that you entered when you arrived in this land. The sight there is horrifying, many dwarves wearing the armor that was displayed in Choca Paquiliz are assaulting the town, battling with the heavily muscled warriors there. You see Chief Kniva standing tall amongst the combatants, his muscular frame displayed in the firelight of burning buildings. He swings his greataxe with abandon and drops a dwarven warrior. The chief looks up and spots you approach, he swings and sends another dwarf away. He grabs a man next to him and pulls him close, shouting something to him and then pushing the man towards you. With reckless abandon the man runs forward, jumping over a dwarf blocking his way, but catching a brutal blow from the others spear.

With amazing speed he runs towards you, reaching you the man is out of breath and his face is white from blood loss. You recognize him as the warrior who met you when you cam through the portal, Gorlin. "The dwarf come and try to takes us, we will fight them to the end before we give up. Chief Kniva says that a group of them went to the Standing Stones along with a traitor from our tribe. Only you can reach them in time, they are trying to bring the darkness from the portal!" the man says, ripping off a strip of his clothes and binding the wound.

Let's... stop... them... now... wheezes Georg as he leans on his eldritch staff. He turns to look at the village, the battle, and the arcane glow. It is outside of the village, so we should go around the fighting to move fastest.

"Thank you, Gorlin. May Palladys watch you and your brethren and favor your honorable battle."

Raiyek glances at Georg and nods. "Yes, I feared something like this. We have to stop him." With that, he moves into action again, heading for the stones and whatever foul ritual the High Priest is performing.
[sblock=OOC]Showtime, guys. Now my only question is ... is the 'High Priest' our Mr. X, or does the saga continue? I wonder ...[/sblock]

[sblock=Milestone]
Forgot to mention it but after the last encounter you reached a milestone. [/sblock]

The group continues past as the cries of battle continue behind them, even more determined to stop the high priest.

As you reach the clearing where the standing stones are located, you see a large column of darkness rising from the ring, it appears to be a black flame over fifty feet tall. Around the stones eight humanoids shuffle back and forth seeming oblivious to the happenings going on. A zombie the size of an ogre is standing around, a tree trunk in his hands, unfocused eyes stare blankly. Next to the stones, a dwarf kneels before a makeshift altar of some kind. It appears that the eyes that were being taken from the victims you've seen were for a purpose as they lie in a pile next to the dwarf, being drawn into the dark flame causing a slight flicker of purple lightning as they do. A man clad in full plate and bearing a large shield and bastard sword stands at guard in front of him. He sees you approaching and turns back to the dwarf for a moment and returns his attention to you, unsheathing the blade and unstrapping the shield. The man walks towards you, seeming to draw the flickering darkness around him distorting his appearance.

The dwarf stands up and a scowl crosses his face, "Well, you've escaped those useless dwarves, I should've known better than to trusdt their incompetence. Ah how I tire of their skin" he says coldly, and closes his eyes. A second later his skin elongates as he becomes taller and a human is standing where the dwarf was a moment ago. "So you've traveled all this way to stop me, why? I hired you, paid you handsomely and your demonstration of gratitude is to assault my holdings in Daunton? Haven't you heard the name Kadaj whispered in hushed reverence in the streets of the city? You shall learn why those who know of me fear me. When I allow Zal'Ekthees to return to this world he shall raise me up as his exarch and then I will truly rule Daunton" the man says madly as he gestures towards you and the zombies begin advancing on you. You notice he still has both eyes.

[sblock=OOC] I know there is current initiative order with Georg last, but if you all know what's good for you ;) you will let the wizard go first! I will post my turn and then we can resolve (you can feel free to delay)[/sblock]

Georg seems to come into a rage, wisps of rise from his staff where his hand grab it with white knuckles. Gone is the composed Dwarf you know, replaced with a primal creature. He bellows an ancient Dwarven war cry and moves forward, seemingly heedless of the dangers around him. Only when he stops before the line of zombies is any hint of intelligence visible on his features. He raises his staff and twirls it over his head before thrusting it forward. Fuer!

Fire flows forth from the staff, engulfing three small and the one large zombie to some effect, while the flames do not seem to touch the armored figure.
