I wish they'd put the stuff in that they filmed, but didn't put in either version. Much, if not all, of the power station stuff with Wedge (or was it Biggs?) back on Tatooine was filmed, but we never got to see it.

Don't quote me on this, I stumbled across this on a DVD rumor site - apparently there will be a special 30th anniversary boxed set release in 2007, which will "make further changes" to the movies and have deleted scenes. So maybe that will be in it?

Jeezus! How many different versions of the same film are we going to have?

Mr. Lucas! Georgie-boy! Stop listening to your fans and stand up for your own creative works. Man up!

No one was complaining about the originals. The problem is that he won't stop tinkering with them.

Well, the dude should have stood up to what he feels is his Star Wars films (i.e., the Special Edition).

But due to fan pressure, he caved and jelloed as if his backbone was force-rended out. Wuss.

My only delight is that he didn't remaster the original, just a simple video transfer from 12-inch laserdiscs. Now all he has to do is match the same price tag as one of the DS9 DVD single-season collection set (at least $110 US).

It's good to go to the Dark [Corporate] Side. BWAH-HAHAHA!!!! :]

If you're desperate for the original OT, better fan up and pony up the money.

Sooo, is George Lucas a gutless wonder who caves in to presure or a vile opportunist who's out to make a quick buck? :\

It doesn't matter to me either way. The prequels killed most of my interest in Star Wars. I'll still buy the occasional video game (like the first Battlefront), but I haven't watched the OT since the prequels came out.

Well, duh! It's the former. Remember, it's the fans that keep wanting new Star Wars films and keep asking him when is he going to make another after Return of the Jedi.

"When you'll make another?"
"When you'll make another?"

From 1984 to 1990, that same question.

He didn't WANT to make a new trilogy, but you guys keep heming and hawing at him... ARRGH!!!

Stupid fan community. Why can't you be satisfied and content with the OT? Now this is the punishment you get: the Prequel Trilogy.

Reg stop taunting people. You were one a fanboy once. I sense it in you.

If he never wanted to make the prequels, why did he renumber the OT as 4-6? Sure, people wanted him to make the prequels he promised, but they wanted good movies. No one "forced" him to make the really crappy prequels he did. In retrospect, many fans would rather that he didn't, but that's hindsight for you.

Anyway, that's irrelevant to the question about the special editions and their changes and the release of the OT. Like I said, fans weren't clamoring for the SEs. Lucas wanted to make the prequels. Lucas wanted to make the SEs. No one twisted his arm.

Sure, fans wanted the OT released on DVD. There are a lot of movies and TV series people want on DVD. However, no one accuses the fans of "forcing" companies to release them. No one said, "Ha, Fox got sick and tired of big babies crying about releasing Brisco County on DVD, so Fox put a ridiculously high price tag on it to spite them!" That would just be stupid.
