Probably. The people who need that kind of thing essentially need to be saved from themselves, and solitary + lockdown is about as good as its going to get in that regard. Pretty sad.

I mean I can totally get the appeal. When I got on my 'every other year at best' holiday. I'm not there to run the show. I dont plan activity, I dont guide things. I completely reverse the dynamic, and I'm just there. The 'holiday' is from having to be the adult.

So I can get it, but man what a sick society we have created.

I actually spent a week in a Cistercian monastery in Rome as part of a trip I took as a teen. (Our chaperone was a Cistercian.)

It was an excellent experience in and of itself. Even in comparison to modern Roman cuisine, the rustic fare we had was every bit its equal.

We did have to settle down for the evening a bit earlier than we’d have liked, of course. And one member of our group accidentally triggered their “assistance needed” alarm one night.
