Today I learned +

Wikipedia on James Ellroy:

He often employs a sort of telegraphese (stripped-down, staccato-like sentence structures), a style that reaches its apex in The Cold Six Thousand. Ellroy describes it as a "direct, shorter-rather-than-longer sentence style that's declarative and ugly and right there, punching you in the nards." This signature style is not the result of a conscious experimentation but of chance and came about when he was asked by his editor to shorten his novel L.A. Confidentialby more than one hundred pages. Rather than removing any subplots, Ellroy abbreviated the novel by cutting every unnecessary word from every sentence, creating a unique style of prose.

I went down a rabbit hole on wikipedia and learned about the following:

Murder of Joseph Augustus Zarelli (also known as The Boy in the Box)
James Hampton (artist)
outsider or naïve art
20th Century Limited derailment and 1995 Palo Verde derailment
Villisca axe murders
Hinterkaifeck murders (this one has to be the creepiest, the perpetrator lived with the six corpses for three days. During this time, they ate the food in the house, fed the animals on the property and used the fireplace.)
Billy the Axeman

TIL these two sites exist. The numbers seem a bit off in places, but generally useful sites for people who like horror up to a point. Would be a bit more useful with more context and data about the films. Specific types of horror and tags, etc. Still, useful.

Dracula (1958) - Scary Meter

Dracula (1958) - Scary Meter
Scary meter seems to disagree with itself in places Evil Dead 4 has a banner saying "#2 Goriest Movie" and Terrifier has a banner up top proclaiming "#1 Goriest Movie" but the gore meter at the bottom gives the Hellraiser reboot a higher gore rating than either of them. (I think it may have to do with Hellraiser having fewer user ratings; maybe they don't consider its score precise enough yet to decide whether to give the #1 spot to it)
