I don't know how I never saw this before, but TIL about Light Painting and holy wow. I always thought those kinds of images were photoshops.
I haven't done more than proof of concept, myself, but friends have done it. You can get some really interesting stuff by, for example, taking a long shutter pic of a car, at night, then hitting it with a flash as it passes. You end up with a light trail from the lights, leading up to a clear pic of the car. Glow sticks are also good for it. Set the shutter for maybe a minute, step in quickly, write something, and then quickly step out. There won't be enough of the person exposed to appear as more than a bit of blur, but the light writing will be clear.
