Today is a sad day: Fallout 3

Not doing the long anticipated and much sought after Fallout 3, which the fallout community has known about in confirmed but not officially status for some time would lose Interplay a large following, who are already mad as hell this title never got done in favour of the sham that was Lionheart anyway.

As such I hope that rumour is just that, though I can't see how if it isn't a rumour it makes good business sense... but hey what do I know.

Just a big "rah! rah!" for the people still at BIS!

Fallout 3, all the way! Sean, I know you can do it! I know you can! :D

Heck, I even broke out my copy of Fallout Tactics last summer just for the heck of it... :)

I will shed no tears for Fallout 3.

Knowing the financial state that Interplay is currently in, it would most likely have been rushed out the door in an unplayable state. In other words, it would have been the Star Control 3 or the MOO3 of the franchise.

Any word on what this means for Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 2? IIRC, that game was nearing the end of development.

It would be a pity if it was shelved; I was looking forward to playing it.

No official comment on the status of Van Buren (not that I'm a guy to make official comments, in any case).

This should not affect BGDA2 at all, it's done and they just need to get the CDs made, AFAIK. The game's been done for at least a month now.

Sean, I am very glad to hear that (A) Black Isle still exists, and (B) that you still have a job. :) Black Isle was one of the main reasons you moved from Seattle, unless I heard that wrong.

I hope some verifiable news comes down the pipe soon, because BI was a good company whose legacy would be a shame to lose.

Hmmmmmmm, Seattle to San Diego. It couldn't have be *just* for BI...

Sue me ... I'm baised. Pomona is all well and good but it's no San Diego.

Even if BIS still exists, I think it's only a matter of time before it goes under, and I won't be particularly broken up about it.

They haven't done anything in years that I enjoyed (in terms of PC games, anyway) - just farmed out the brand name to outside developers who gave us crap like Fallout: BoS and Lionheart.

I'd have liked to see Fallout 3, but every mention of it in interviews seemed to revolve around 1)3D graphics and 2)Real-time combat, aka "how to increase market share" - which aren't bad things in and of themselves, but not what I played Fallout for.

The Fallout games and Planescape were amazing, and I still play them, but that's years in the past, and the company that made them is gone for all intents and purposes anyway.
