Todd Lockwood Laid Off By WOTC! (thread necromancy)

WotC career path is as follows:
Get hired for a low-level job.
Work your way to your first promotion.
New promotion, new title.
Ooo look, shiny new opening...and it shall be mine!
Wow, another spot for me to move up?
I am the true head ______ I am king of the world!
Where is the unemployment office located?

Evil voices in the shadows spoke they can hire two newbies for each lay-off. Then again, who knows. They might rely more on freelancers. Earlier in this thread (some 7 year old post) also mentioned they might do that with Lockwood.

Did this actually happen? Do they hire artists on a project basis?

Yes, they do - a talented young artist named Beth Trott left her dream job of running a successful game store in the Baltimore area to pursue her other dream of being a professional artist in the industry. WotC has contacted her for source books, Magic cards, and other projects. She is completely free-lance but has probably 30 or 40 pieces commissioned from WotC. (I saw her at GenCon this year and caught up on things. She was a featured artist about four years ago, I believe.)

Ha!

I'd seen that image before on another forum, but couldn't remember where it was. Thanks for posting it, it definitely captures the feel of thread necromancy, though I suppose a confusion effect should be in the game text of the card as well.

On a completely unrelated note: the 'necromancer' in that pseudo Magic card sort of kind of looks like his head is emerging from a women's woo-hoo. IYKWIMAITYD.

Just saying.

I wonder if there is anything safe at WotC?

Seven years of holiday let-gos, (due to fiscal year apparently) but if they are constantly letting people go, are they then turning around and hiring new folks at a later date?

Sean K Reynolds said in 208 that he has friends who have been laid off and rehired by WOTC more than twice. So, it may be they are rehiring the same people after the first of the year.

Damn, if Sean is that old, maybe he is responsible for all this necromancy.

I've edited the thread title to make it clear this is thread necromancy...

thanks.

i wasn't doing this just b/c.

i did it when i was trying to help Morrus find out in the latest thread about the hirings and firings patterns.

i would have bumped 2008 (Eric Noah started it) thread too. but you had locked it back on Dec 8, 2008.
