Tokiwong's 3.5 Game: Chapter 1 (The Swarm)

Well that was useless. My best spell, and it did nothing! These spiders must be immune. Note to self, do not cast enchantments on vermin.

Gritting his teeth, Kerrik draws the crossbow hanging on his belt, loads it, and cocks it. This stupid thing is too slow, he complains to himself.

Missing the large spider with his first strike Crap...bad enough there are goblins up here...now I may wind up having all my insides feeding some overgrown insect... Jason once again trys to strike the spider with his rapier.

OOC: well back again...thanks for autopiloting...

Kerrik beings the somewhat lengthy process of drawing his, crossbow, spending a moment to pull it out, and then loading the bolt, consuming his thoughts as the spiders retaliate against his comrades!

Move Equivalent action to draw the crossbow, another move equivalent to load it.

The spiders facing the dwarves attack once more, biting two of the soldiers fiercely, they are still standing, but the wounds are vicious, as the spiders seem to have no concern for their safety!

The spiders strike two dwarves, both doing 2 points each to two more dwarves, not the same dwarves as before.

The spider facing Bjorn tries to bite him, but fails to get its mandibles through his armor, while the spider facing Lif simply misses the dwarf scrambles back from the creature. Though Jason is not lucky, and is bitten at his ankles by the spider currently facing him!

The spiders facing Lif and Bjorn both miss, but Jason is hit with a roll of 14, and takes 1 point of damage!

But Jason does not fail to retaliate as he stabs his rapier deep into the spider’s carapace, it shivers for a moment before collapsing to the ground. He pulls out his rapier, and it glistens with putrid entrails.

Jason strikes the spider with a 15, and does 6 points of damage.

Bjorn tries to cast on the defensive and bless his fellow party members with power of the moon, but the attempt fails, and the Bless spell is wasted in the process. The spider lashes at him while his attention is focused on the spell, and it bites him once more, sinking its mandibles into his flesh.

Bjorn makes an attempt to cast defensively, with a DC 16 (15 +1 for the spell level), he makes a Concentration check and rolls a 10. Failing the attempt. The spider makes an attack of opportunity and gets a 14, doing 1 more point of damage.

It is now Jalban’s turn.

Bjorn dances away fom the spider (Takes a 5'step) and casts bless. (no need for defensive)
Bjorn can't cast Bless he only had one Bless spell prepared for the day, that spell is lost.

Jalban spits out a gnomish curse under his breath as the spider skitters away from his attack. He then lifts the hammer and brings it down for another attack.

Jalban crushes the spider he is facing with a powerful squash, with a resounding crunch! The legs twitter for a moment, but the spider is thoroughly dead! Saving Bjorn from further injury from that spider.

Jalban rolled a 20 total, and did 12 points of damage to the spider. Leaving now only three spiders.

Cenkil swings his axe at the axe accosting his brother but misses, as Drakor smashes the bothersome vermin with his axe, splitting it in twain! Lif then turns his attention to his brethren and tries to help them overcome the spiders. But his blows are clumsy as the dwarves try to finish off the remaining two spiders! The dwarven warriors make short work of the last two spiders, as the scene of excitement grows silent for a moment.

Cenkil missed with a 10, while Drakor hit with an 18, and did 7 points of damage. Lif missed his attack with a 6, while the dwarves finished off the rest of the spiders. Now out of combat.

The dwarves' breath ragged breaths as they glance around for any more dangers. In the distance somewhere a rock clangs against the earth in a jarring echo, but little else stirs besides the party and the dwarves.

Then a voice* rings out in the in the pale sunlight, as the sun begins to set. A raspy high-pitched voice that echoes through the crag like a haunting cry it seems to be filled with venom…

*Translated from Goblin

“Begone filthy Blackhorn rats! You cannot defeat the swarm, it will consume you! The two you left behind will die slowly at our hands for the injustices done! Maglubiyet’s vengeance shall be done!”

Cenkil breathes back a ragged breath, “I do not know what that voice said, but it sounded like goblin-speech to me.”

Lif nods, “We must save the others,” he turns to the party, and then looks back to Cenkil, “I will go back for them alone if I must.”

Cenkil grumbled as he mulled over his options.

Drakor moves to stand beside Lif, dark blood dripping from his axe and splattered across his shield. “I don’t know what that foul being just said, but we probably haven’t much time. I wish to go with Lif and help my kin. What the rest of ye do is up to yourselves.”

Kerrik surveys the carnage. All right, we're pretty good.

Kerrik then looks dejected, staring at the ground. Wow, my real battle and I was worthless. My best spell didn't do anything, I didn't even have a chance to shoot anything with my crossbow, and I ran like a little girl at the first sign of danger. Some master arcanist I'm going to be. Well, at least if we face goblins in the near future, my spells might be effective against them. Kerrik's thoughts are derailed by the strange, rasping voice.

Hey, anyone know what that said? he asks bewilderedly. And I'm the only one with an education here, and I didn't understand a word. Draconic's a dead language anyway. Well, I can at least try and be brave.

We will help you rescue the others, and we can find more about the goblin activity we're investigating as well. I hope the others don't mind me speaking for them.
