Tomb Under the Tor (New Playtest Report)

First that the ranger, at first level, is able to fire several arrows - two of which are on an immediate counterattack.

Finally, both wounded characters used "second wind" to gain hit points back. So it's possible there is a mechanism to allow all characters to heal themselves.

1) Only one arrow, was a counterattack. The other two were on his turn.

2) Seems like the SW Saga second wind rules. Let's see, I have that handy...
in Saga, it's once per day, only when less than or equal to 1/2 HP, and it heals HP equal to CON score or 1/4 HP total, whichever is greater.

So, 2 members of this party used their second wind within their first two ever combat rounds. It's gonna be a long day...

When you're at half your Hit Points or less, you can use a Swift Action to catch a Second Wind. It heals you for one quarter of your full Hit Point total (rounded down) or a number of Hit Points equal to your Con score, whichever is higher. You can only do it once per day, but there are Feats and Talents that let you do it more then once per day. However, you can never use it more then once per encounter.

Oh, and only Heroic characters can do it. Non-Heroic characters can't. So in D&D terms, PC classes can do it, but not NPC classes. So Commoners can't catch a Second Wind after you beat the snot out of them.

You had to take the easy route and type very little while I was making a much more involved post about this, didn't you? ;)

Heh. Was wondering why I hadn't seen anybody else post about it yet. ;)

1) The Warlord is in, it's a class from first level. 2) There was no mention of having issues adapting the Warforged and Eladrins, so if anything they're in the playtest material.

I believe one of the 4e sketches released at GenCon was of an eladrin as well. My guess? Eladrins kill aasimar and take their stuff (and get downgraded in the process). Probably good to have them in the core to balance out the tieflings.

1/4th of total, rather than 1/3rd, but otherwise spot on.

Great information in the playtest article - thanks for showing that!

I hope they change it to: You can activate Second Wind any time. It would prevent masoquists characters, and wouldn't be unbalanced.

Warlords continue to sound cool.

Eladrin and Warforged are a surprise, but a pleasant one. It seems the Tiefling has company in the realm of potential new core races.

I really like the sound of the archery abilities and the new wizard stuff.

It seems there are a few nails in the "fragile 1st level hero" coffin. The fighter took a critical hit and got ripped up by a wolf, even before his second wind, and still was up. That is a bit more than 3E starting hitpoints. Two criticals made against him in his first fight of the campaign though... Not a lucky guy, probably won't make it past third level.

No kidding. Best part was the Rogue taking a crit and using Second Wind, only to get slapped with ANOTHER crit!

My guess is that all the celestials have been folded into "angel" (which means we'll have some casualties on the eladrin and guardinal fronts, oh noes fewer furries and suparelfs), and that "eladrin" is the new aasimar. It's a change I'm wholeheartedly on-board for.

Apropos of nothing, I predict everyone will be calling the character Donna, not Domna, by the next session. The player can go with it, or make up a running joke that she HATES being called that.
