Who in the heck is going to stomp on a Lvl40 Barbarian who speaks Flumph?

Heck- most people would probably assume he took it just to provoke fights!

Rocks! A 60 INT character can decipher Druidic just by hearing someone else speak it for a few minutes.

I don't understand how that could work. No matter how intelligent you are, you won't possess a full vocabulary after listening to someone speak for a few minutes. Sure you might be able to figure out some of the grammatical rules, and extrapolate from their to figure out some more, and possibly analyse the origins and etymology and phonolgy of the words you hear to understand how they relate to words in other languages, but no way will listening to a Druid complain to one of his colleagues about farmers encroaching on his forest give you enough information to warn that same Druid that his sister is about to marry a goblin.

Baklunish, Suel, Keolandish, Oeridian and Flan for when your character visits the world of Greyhawk. Then add a bunch of Realms, Krynn, Eberron, etc languages, and you'll quickly run out of slots.

Of course, with all these suggestions people are throwing around (including the usual outsider standby's), the big question becomes... WHO is going to teach your character those bizarre languages? Personally, as a DM, I would never allow a PC to take a language unless it was actually possible for them to have learned it in a realistic situation. Starting languages must be common languages spoken around the area the PCs come from (and all players must choose a home region when they create their PC), or they must actually find someone who can teach them a new language. While cool, there are not many PCs in my campaign that can speak non-standard languages.

Doesn't matter how many language slots they have.
