Total..er..partial..er somewhat chaos?

I think your character should....

1. Swear vengeance on his previously chosen god for being so wishy-washy about granting powers.

2. Go seek a church opposed to your previous one to sign up for some revenge. Become a Blackguard.

3. Ask the new (probably evil) church to spiff up that melted artifact you still have into one of Ultimate Evilness to help you kick butt. Offer up the slag of your melted Holy Avenger as a down payment.

4 Enjoy the fact your special mount got cooler.

sounds good to me

Yes, hence:

Er, no? Granted, I missed that statement the first time thru, but never the less, I still disagree with the underlying assertion; that dagger +1 = currency. To which I respond: not necessarily. Some might say 'meh, daggers arn't my bag, I'll cash it in when it's convienant' where as others could just as easily say 'a magic dagger can save my bacon in situations where my trusty longsword can't - I better hold on to this'.

The mount would have the items and would technically not have to use the portal. The mount would go back to the plane it originates from and be able to be summoned with EVERYTHING at any point in the future, you know, like when you are already through the portal?

You could have put all the treasure on the mount and lost nothing in regular 3.5 rules.

Yeah what he said - that is what I meant.

Hence the poke-mount.

I will retract my statement that "in certain circumstances, magic items are NOTHING more than cash", as you seem to be stuck on that (even though I explain/contradict that opinion later in the post). It was poorly worded anyway.

In your example, I'd say that either a +1 dagger is exactly what he wanted, or useful in the interim until he can sell it and get what he really wants (as per my quote).

For all those of you who have put up with my complaining about my crappy DM, thank you. I found a new DM and had a great game Saturday night.

Welcome to the next level.

First off, Goldmoon, I presume your paladin has at least one rank in Knowledge (religion), as well as personal experience with the rules of his or her church. If the DM had decided beforehand that destroying an evil item in the field was expressly against your church rules, you should have gotten a Knowledge check to recognize that at a low DC (probably with a significant circumstance bonus.) Anything else means that your DM has run roughshod over you and ignored abilities that your character possesses.

Seconded. I can't even imagine our DM (or myself) trying to pull that omnipotent inventory manager BS, the game would end right there on the spot.

It's really more like something that a 1ed DM would do.
