Tracking Damage in Large Combats

Well, in our group, we have 3 or more players with LOTS of dice. So we use different colors of d6s for monsters. "I hit red 6" "I slash green 2" "my fireball affects red 2, 4, 5, green 1, 2, and 4."
The Dm just has a list of how many hps each type has, and a # for each one.

Here's the method I've used for years.

I have a piece of graph paper that is already divided up into numerous sections that are 5 squares across and varying squares deep. I usually fill the top half of the paper with clusters of lower number of boxes (5 to 10 deep) and the ones lower down on the page are larger (15 to 30 squares deep). Each cluster is numbered. I then take this piece of paper, and put it into a smooth, clear sheet protector. The miniatures on the playmat are then numbered according to the number on the damage sheet. With a black Vis a Vis pen, I draw a line to section off the number of squares each monster has and then as they lose HP, I fill in the boxes with a red Vis a Vis.

When the combat is over I note the number of slain creatures and then wipe the ink off the sheet so it can be used again.
