[Trailer] Kingdom of Heaven (Ridley Scott)

I found Gladiator to be really well done, and utterly forgettable. I bought it on DVD when it came out, and have never watched it since. I have the feeling this movie will be the same way.

I also want Dom & Billy to get some decent shots at roles this side of the Atlantic. Hell if Dana Carvey and Jon Lovits and Chevy Chase were given a shot at making travesties, let Dom & Billy get a chance. ;)
Hey now, don't be disrespecting Fletch.

I suspect some of the backlash that I see on gaming boards against him has to do more with the fact that he played an elf than his acting. It just seems rather interesting to me that some of the posters who don't like Bloom also post how much they hate elves in general.

Hugo Weaving played an elf, and I don't dislike him. Liv Tyler played an elf, and I don't dislike her (although I do consider her rather overexposed).

Try again.

Ah, I see you count 13 movies even though I cannot, because it was the same character? Sorry, but no: Three movies seperately released is still three movies. So PotC2 doesn't count because it's the same character? Harrison Ford didn't have 3 SW movies or three Indy moies because it was the same character?

13. Pirates of the Caribbean 2 (2006)
12. Elizabethtown (2005)
11. Kingdom of Heaven (2005)
10. Haven (2004)
9. Troy (2004)
8. The Calcium Kid (2004)
7. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
6. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
5. Ned Kelly (2003)
4. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
3. Black Hawk Down (2001)
2. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
1. Wilde (1997)

So in 5 of 13, he played the same character. Legolas or Will.
7 of 13 were "sword wielding" characters.
6 of 13 were "Historical/Historical Fantasy". Am not counting LOTR in this, that's pure fantasy. Troy is in here, as it is treated more historical, though obviously the movie is horribly flawed.

(And lots not forget the plan is to film POTC2 & POTC3 at the same time.)

Hey, I am not knocking him for making a paycheck. Obviously he's molded that insta-fame from LOTR into a decent paycheck...much better then ANYONE else who was in that movie. (some people like cate and ian are beyond that point.)

I would just hope that he seriously start trying to do something new, different. Hell, try doing a buddy cop flick. Just so long as he doesn't star opposite a dog or something...

I really don't consider sequels as seperate movies when talking about an actor's body of work I look at the different characters he has played. It is like seeing an actor in one tv series only how can you judge just how good they really are? Maybe they are just good at playing that one character.

That is why I a saying that so far Orlando has only played four of these characters. He has also played a "rent Boy", "American soldier", "boxer" and an "Australian outlaw" I have not seen Haven so I nonot know what kind of character he plays.

If all his movies were sword flicks and none of them sequels then yes I could see the cry of typecasting.

Harrison Ford is an execellent excellent example after doing Indy so close after Star Wars there was talk that he was typecasting himself as an action adventure hero and that it would kill his career. It didn't.

Orlando Bloom is a young actor just starting his career. Who knows what he will be doing 20 years from now.

There are other actors who had careers before LOTR Sean Bean for example has an impressive amount of work under his belt the Sharpe series for example. The same for Viggo and John Rhys Davies.

And who says I was talking about you personally. I was making an observation that on several gaming boards I visit I have noticed a correlation between the Bloom bashers and the elf haters being the same posters and it makes me wonder if the dislike of him has something to do with the fact that he played an elf. An elf who made the dwarf look foolish time after time. Another compliant I read on LOTR threads.

Actually, what I would like to see is a movie having nothing to do with "fantasy"/"history"/"fantastical" (if you know what I mean) staring the nine actors who played the Fellowship.

A heist flick, a action/comedy, a straight up comedy...
How about "Gandalf's 9"? The Fellowship go to Vegas to rob a Mordor-themed casino run by Saruman (with on-the-hour eruptions from "Mt. Doom", mock orc battles for the kiddies and "The Mouth of Sauron ... After Dark" performing twice a night in the Morgoth Lounge).

In the inevitable sequel, Galadriel is brought in to impersonate Cate Blanchett.

God, Ocean's 12 was sooo bad. I loved the more recent Ocean's 11. I've seen it a lot. I was really disapointed with O'12.

Elves sucking deer poop and me getting tired of seeing Orlando Bloom doing a gazillon and three quarters sword/fantasy/historical movies have no common ground. I just would ike to see him stretch what talent he might have into other movies.

As for Mr. Ford. Look again at his career. The 8 films between his "three signature rolls" (Solo, Jones & Ryan) have some 12 other titles in between, rolls unlike his others. (I didn't count "cameos" or TV appearances.

1 Clear and Present Danger (1994) .... Jack Ryan
2 The Fugitive (1993) .... Dr. Richard Kimble
3 Patriot Games (1992) .... Jack Ryan
4 Regarding Henry (1991) .... Henry Turner
5 Presumed Innocent (1990) .... Rusty Sabich
6 Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) .... Indiana Jones
7 Working Girl (1988) .... Jack Trainer
8 Frantic (1988) .... Dr. Richard Walker
9 The Mosquito Coast (1986) .... Allie Fox
10 Witness (1985) .... Det. Capt. John Book
11 Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) .... Indiana Jones
12 Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983) .... Han Solo
13 Blade Runner (1982) .... Rick Deckard
14 Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) .... Indiana Jones
15 Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980) .... Han Solo
* Apocalypse Now (1979) .... Col. Lucas
* More American Graffiti (1979) (uncredited) .... Officer Bob Falfa
16 The Frisco Kid (1979) .... Tommy Lillard
17 Hanover Street (1979) .... David Halloran
* The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978) (TV) .... Han Solo
18 Force 10 from Navarone (1978) .... Lieutenant Colonel Mike Barnsby
19 Heroes (1977) .... Ken Boyd
20 Star Wars (1977) .... Han Solo

If we look at Ford's first 7 movies, most of them were action movies of a sort...two of them were Star Wars roles. So, it could have looked like he was focusing too much on that genre. In fact, look at his first 12 roles, and about 9 of them were action-type roles. That was over a 5 year period. Which is about a year longer than Orlando Bloom has been on the scene. Nobody complains about that...

Orlando appears to have a decent spread. I tend to agree that sequels don't count the same way. I'll be interested if he still has a career in 5 years, and if he's progressed, or if he's doing the same thing day in and day out.

I think a lot of directors and producers see Bloom and think "Hey, he looks a lot like a swashbuckling action hero from the 30's! I'd love to have someone like that in one of my movies."

Also, hey Dr. Bashir from DS9 is in this movie! Rock.

Well, he's done that type of role before. He's been trained a fair bit for the different movies in "sword-fighting" etc.....so he already knows the ropes, so to speak. I would suspect that some directors figure it's easier to use an established quantity, than to train someone new to do it..
