[Trailer] Kingdom of Heaven (Ridley Scott)

He can act?

EDIT: I don't dislike Bloom, and I thought he was fine in LOTR... But then I saw him in other movies, playing the exact same character in each. From what I've seen so far, as an actor Bloom has the range of a flute with all its keys glued shut.

Added to the fact that Bloom seems to have been typecast as Mr. Fantasy/Period film guy, which means he's gotten overexposed in movies catering to our geek subculture. Familiarity breeds contempt and all that.
Do you realize how many popular actors this can be said about? One could say the same thing about Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, and any number of others....as well as plenty of women actors.

Tonnes of actors can't really act. They just look good spouting the lines. I really don't think Orlando has unique ownership of "suckage"....he's just the popular guy to blast at the moment.

Well, Brad Pitt has exhibited a lot more range than Bloom has to date, but sure - Orlando is not alone in the ranks of paid actors with little apparent talent.

Or perhaps he's starring in an upcoming film that this thread is supposedly discussing, and those other actors... aren't. Which is why we're talking about his acting and not anyone else's at the moment.

Actually, what I would like to see is a movie having nothing to do with "fantasy"/"history"/"fantastical" (if you know what I mean) staring the nine actors who played the Fellowship.

A heist flick, a action/comedy, a straight up comedy...

I also want Dom & Billy to get some decent shots at roles this side of the Atlantic. Hell if Dana Carvey and Jon Lovits and Chevy Chase were given a shot at making travesties, let Dom & Billy get a chance. ;)

Dominic Monahan now stars on 'Lost'.

Billy Boyd had a role on Master & Commander but really hasn't done much else.

And do we really want them in 'cop-buddy' pics or 'hiest' flicks. That, to me, really spells the end of a career.

True. But Brad Pitt has also been doing it for much longer. He was a pretty face at the beginning with debatable acting ability, but over time, picked challenging roles, and actually hasn't been too bad in some films. But he's....what....30 something now? Orlando Bloom is years behind him. He could stay a pretty face, or develop into a real actor. It's a little early to tell.

Pitt? Try 41 years old.

I think Boyd and Monahan should reprise their roles as Pippin and Merry a couple of years after the return to the Shire. There could be an evil hobbit who is trying to corner the mushroom markets, and he's roughing up the competition. Maybe Farmer Maggot, played by Bob Hoskins. But when Maggot goes after Pippin's girlfriend, he crosses a line that shouldn't be crossed, and Pippin and Merry join forces to bring Hell to the Shire!

PIPPIN: Ya know what else comes in pints, Merry?

MERRY: No, Pippin, what?

PIPPIN: Revenge, Merry. Revenge comes in pints, and I'm serving them up cold.

Historians say film distorts Crusades

Ala the recent King Arthur flick, here we have another film that Hollywood will try to portray as historically accurate, while it actually ends up being anything but.

I'm not usually one to nitpick historical innacuracies, and can easily be entertained by a film full of them. Yet the trend of having Hollywood basically flat-out lie to moviegoers is getting really irksome.

Market it as mindless entertainment, and I'm there. Market it as "a fascinating history lesson", and I'm staying out of the theater on principle.

Wonders how many of you hate Bloom/Pit/Cruise because your significant other thinks they're purty...

;)

Seriously though, I think Pit is a really good actor. He especially excells in "crazy" rolls. See 12 Monkeys.

Cruise....hmm.... I never really cared a lot for him but I really enjoyed The Last Samurai and Collateral.

As far as Bloom goes. Well, he was Legolas and I liked him there. Haven't seen Troy yet. Depp did such a good job in Pirates I forgot Bloom was even there. *shrug* I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he just likes doing the fantasy/historical thing. I don't fault him for that, and if I were an actor, I'd jump on those movies too.

That said, and to go off on a tangent... Didn't the guy who wrote the script for The Core used to visit ENWorld? I ask because the same guy is apparently writing Transformers.

Odd....I wonder if that would be either the Knights Templar or the Hospitallers? Neither order were "evil knightly orders", so it would be a bit of a twist to have them as the enemy. But, it's Hollywood, so...

Banshee

Not much of a twist, I'm afraid. From the dramatis personae, I would guess we're talking about the Templars, who are largely known in popular culture through Sir Walter Scott's various Templar villains, most especially in Ivanhoe, which has been done as a miniseries and movie many times.

Evil Templars are actually something of a cliche!
