Transformers: Animated

Well, after the mega-cool factor that is the movie, we get...

Transforming Teen Titans. No kidding. The art people are from the Teen Titans show and the character art is...well, Transforming Teen Titans. It is the most awful thing in Transformers I have ever seen. And, the descriptions of the storylines specifically indicate that they are aiming the show (which won't have any sort of continuing storylines at all so no sense of continuity) at "a new generation of Transformers fans"...in other words, it is kiddified. This next part is rumor as far as I can tell...but the Autobots won't be fighting Decepticons, they will be fighting super powered humans (comic book villains, essentially).

Ack.

Like Transformers needed to be kiddified. COME ON!

Giant Robots kicking the crap out of each other and turning into cool vehicles! It's like Hot Wheels + Power Rangers. Why the urge to kidify it? You could easily rerun the G1 series and still get good ratings. It had frickin' ROBOT DINOSAURS! That's like, kid catnip!

Seems that peoples' whining and complaining about getting an American-made Transformers cartoon finally paid off...

Too bad American animation has largely gone down the toilet... *rolleyes*

As I rather liked Teen Titans, I dont have any major complaints here. The character designs dont thrill me, but if the previous show was any indication, it'll be a fun show. Most of the people I've talked to who hated Teen Titans did so either because they didnt like the designs, or were upset it was marketed toward a younger demographic and thus had a bit more of a sanitized plot. Which basically means they didnt give it a shot and missed the wonderfully fluid animation, excellent fight choreography, and what were some fairly deep plots once you got past the outside veneer and into the actual meat of the stories.

Additionally, there WILL be continuity. They've already mentioned that the various seasons are going to have arching plot lines. It'll be like Teen Titans in that aspect too. And to put another rumor to rest, there WILL be Decepticons. Megatron and several others have been mentioned, and Megatron is THE main villain. While there will be super humans involved (And I hope Circuit breaker is one of them), they are being influenced by the Decepticons. They've mentioned Grimlock is showing up too. There's a cast list going around if you hunt for it. (I'll post it up later as I need to find it)

In any case, considering all the ranting and raving there was about the Movies character designs (And we all know how that ended up), I'm willing to give it a chance. The animated designs might grow on me. Lord knows, if you asked me about Movie Starscreams design this time LAST year I never would have believed that I'd ever like it.

I think the real problem with the character design is that they don't look like something that could transform at all. They just look like the Teen Titans style characters, and you can't see robots beyond the paint on the frame, as it were. It looks more like an oddly drawn person wearing a robot suit that would die painfully if it tried to transform.

That was my thought. The past few TF incarnations I've looked at and said, "It looks ok but not really my cup of tea." This thing actually makes me flinch. I'm the type of person that really tries to give things an honest try but this is the first time I've ever, as a fan of something, felt insulted.

It looks more like a sequel to the old GoBots cartoon than anything having to do with Transformers. Most of the story ideas seem okay, but the character models just look bad.
