How would you handle the fact that essentially nobody ever gets hurt in either show?

Watch the Transformers Movie....man some autobots go BYE BYE. Made me cry. Not even the musical masterpiece by Weird Al or the soothing voice of Leonard Nemoy could stem the flow of tears...

I gotta go.

Well, from my childhood only G.I. Joe was available, and that as an actual soldier (still in his Barbie-sized format).

I still remember the fiasco of coming out with the series of WWII uniforms for Joe -- when the Nazi uniform hit the shelves, it was pure disaster...

So, for my money, neither G.I. Joe nor Transformers ;)

Ah yes. I had the Old School G.I. Joe as well. The one with real (as opposed to hard plastic) hair and beard stubble.

I voted for Transformers, tho. I like the Transformers.

I voted G.I. Joe. The new Joe comics are actually pretty cool; they also have a fairly respectable body count.

Transformers: Armada wrecked whatever fondness I may have had for the Transformers, though. Starscream and Optimus were the only Transformers I even liked.

Nobody ever dying in either show was kinda amusing, though the fact that the Giant Robots couldn't even hit each other was dumb. I mean, they're giant robots; it's not like they'd be supposed to bleed or anything.

Yeah, TF: the Movie was really damn cool. I wish they could have done the whole series on that scale/feel.

Oh, and Snake Eyes was the only cool Joe. Pity he never got any good scenes after the initial 5-part miniseries. His bit with healing under the care of that old man was what really hooked me on G.I. Joe at the time. :(

Well, I've never seen it on TV, but the GI Joe comics I've come across are passably military in their outlook - more so than anything I've come across recently, at any rate. (My fondest memory is of some mercenaries wondering which nation's special ops group has just rampaged through their camp. British? No, we'd be dead. Israelis? No, we wouldn't know they'd been here. Must've been the Americans, then.)

However, Transformers is all about war too. Maybe not as authentically terminological, but then, these aren't soldiers precisely. And in addition to being noble warriors, they're also giant robots, and have the opportunity to engage in car chases whenever they feel like it, even if they're on the moon. And that is why I voted Transformers.

PS: Armada grew on me.

PPS: I'm gestating a 'make Transformers better' project in my head. They're giant alien robots. I'm sure I can come up with some ways to make the idea more realistic without sacrificing any of what made it cool. (Bear in mind that 'realistic' here means 'even more frighteningly powerful than a giant metal behemoth that can rip tanks in half with its bare hands'.)

There is an RPG called Cartoon Action Hour along with the supplement "Metal Wars" that lets you play something very similar to Transformers called transbots. Just bought em this weekend haven't read it yet though.
