Gee, sounds pretty damn similar to the original series to me. They even have the same guy providing the voice of Optimus Prime. The only real differences I see are the actual forms of the Transformers, and I can forgive a director for wanting to take liberties with that.
Besides, it's not as if the forms have been changed too drastically. At least Megatron isn't a freaking fondue pot, or something.

I'm completely with Agamon on his point of view about the updated look. There would have been absolutely no chance of the movie succeeding at all if it were Toys On Film.
