Traps & Treachery mistake?

While overall a solid product, i can't help but wondering if Improved Ranged Sneak Attack is broken. if this has been discussed before well i'm sorry. anyway, it lets you make projectile sneak attacks at 45 ft and thrown sneak attacks at 60 ft. is it the other way around? doesn't that make sense?

I've used this feat even before it appeared in the book. I allowed far shot to extend point blank shot, and sneak attack range. It never destroyed the game or made it unbalanced. People have shown specific examples were it would be unbalancing, but the examples were just too specific that it doesn't come up often in a real game.

Now, as to the 45ft for projectile and 60ft for thrown weapons; it does seem like that should be switched, but the way its written works fine. After the book came out I dropped my house rule that I stated above and used the feat.

45 ft makes sense...but 60 ft for thrown weapons is totally out of place. i'm gunna switch em (nobody can think of any decent explanations). also, i checked the errata (all of 3 entris) where i didn't find anything about it.

The biggest problem I had with increasing Ranged sneak attack was ambushing from higher places. At 60ft you can have a few rogues atop a 3rd story building and rain death on an unsuspecting party. Then when the few who live seek cover, the rogues easily escape. Almost kille the party with that, wasn't even trying to.

well, i do like the extra ambush potential this gives. but were they throwing daggers down at the party? (as per the feat). how did the party react. if you remember, what were the rough specs of the party and the enemy ambushers?

I was using a House rule at the time that allowed people with Far shot to double the range of sneak attack and point blank shot so the range was 60ft.

The party was about 8th level. we had a Duelist, a Ranger, and a sorcercer. Everyone took cover exceot the duelisyt who ran to a wagon, jumoped on top of the wagon and tried to jump to the top of the roof. He fumbled that roll and broke his leg, but had great cover against the side of the building. TH Ranger tried to answer with bow fire but all he did was draw their attention and he got pin cusioned. THe sorcerer tried to launch a fireball, but a roguew had readied an attack against him and he gor crited and went down. Sneak attack was applied because the sorcerer was unaware of the enemy. So, I then had the assassins run away as the local gaurd showed up. Had to do that or else I would have killed the party.

A fumble on a skill check, and broke his leg? That must be another house rule. ;)
