Trip attacks & Monks

Greetings,

Can a monk use his flurry of blows with trip ?

Let's say a 6th level Monk (2 attacks FOB) is threatening 2 monsters (he has improved trip). Can he:

Make a trip on monster A,
If successful, follow up with a free attack on A,
Make a trip arrack on monster B,
If successful, follow up with a free attack on B.

This is happening in my campaign that we are playing right now (tonight)... is this correct ?

I don't see why not... and when you are using flurry of blows at 6th level you actually get 3 attacks, all at -2 to your attack bonus. So potentially you could get another trip on monster C in there too.

Huh...

The BAB of a 6th level monk is 4, so that only gives him two attacks of FOB I reckon...

Yep. Although if your monk is like most out there, he probably doesn't have a huge Str, so he won't be tripping a lot.

Not that there's anything wrong with tripping a lot.

Thanks Hong.

He might have a low Str, but his +4 from Imp. Trip helps a lot. He used it in tonight's game to great effect.

Especially considering that getting up from prone gives an AoO (he also has combat reflexes), and while he's prone, the critter has -4 on his AC.

Quite devastating. My player likes it. Me too, for that matter.

I have a cult of evil monks IMC. Heh

In 3.0 this is correct, but it sounds like his group is using 3.5, since in 3.0 getting up from prone does not provoke an AoO. Therefore, his 6th level monk has a base attack of +4 and his flurry of blows is one extra attack with only a -1 attack penalty to each attack, giving him a flurry of blows of +3/+3.

The 3.0 Monk had 3 attacks with Flurry at level 6.

You might want to consider taking the Instand stand Feat from the Kalamar books. I have this with my Monk and the Knockdown Feat. They work well together.

Oh, I forgot to mention my new favorite feat -- Great Throw. Take one of your attacks to use this feat and toss baddie #1 into baddie#2. They both stand on their next turn, each provoking AoOs, and with your Combat Reflexes you can do the same thing over again -- toss them each to the ground or into other baddies, and keep doing it until they cry uncle.
