Tripping-unarmed only?

I have read the FAQ on tripping and I am still unclear as to what conditions it may occur under.

Does one need to have a free hand to fulfill the "unarmed" portion of tripping? What about with improved trip?

Does this mean that someone weilding a two-handed sword could not make a trip attempt?
What about someone with a short-sword in each hand? A long sword and a light or heavy shield?

If there are any rules quotations or errata I am missing please direct me to them.

There is no reference in the tripping rules to requiring a free hand, so I would say that you can trip while your hands are occupied.

You don't need to have a free hand in order to make an unarmed attack. You'd need a free hand if you wanted to punch someone, but an unarmed attack is not necessarily a punch.

Unarmed Attacks: Striking for damage with punches, kicks, and head butts is much like attacking with a melee weapon, except for the following:

You can trip with an unarmed melee attack if your hands are occupied, instead using your leg, shoulder, or some other body part. Patryn has the rules quote above.

And, of course, certain weapons are trip weapons, allowing you to make a trip attempt using the weapon.
