True20 system released by itself

Is the Toughness save functionally identical to a Fortitude save (other than not increasing with level progression)? Do they both use Constitution as the ability modifier?

I'll have to get this. Been waiting for it, really, just don't have any room in the week for another game.

I don't get Toughness not going up with Level, though. If damage escalates but Toughness remains it seems like it'll just become a problem of greater and greater degrees of "Eggs With Sledgehammers". I see that alot in Godlike and it's not a long-term-PC friendly situation.

The Toughness save is no longer a level-based saving throw. It's essentially identical to a Constitution check, with added bonuses (like adding the armor bonus). This means that damage and Toughness remain on the same rough scale, so that a character doesn't get harder to actually hurt as he advances. Rather, he gets harder to hit. There are a number of things which can offset this change to reflect those characters who're exceptionally resistant to being hurt or affected by pain; Conviction, the pool of points a hero spends to affect the outcome, is one of these.

Cheers,
Cam

Also Arcana is a little simpler. You simply buy the Adept only Power feat and get a single Power at ranks 3 + Adept level. There is not seperate Training and Talent feats. Arcanum and Wild Talent have merged as the only non-Adept option. Overall, calculating Power ranks is much easier.
How do arcana work for non-Adepts? I quite liked the way BR's Arcanum allowed a non-adept to have some decent powers (albeit at a higher cost than adepts).

Have any new arcana been added? How extensive is the modern appendix?

Has Canny Defense been modified, or does it still add to Defense?

Just purchased T20 and so far I'm very impressed.

Seems to me though, that just as in BR, no one will wear armor at high lvls, especially now that defense gets even higher than in BR.

Would it be game-shattering to change max. dodge to max dex?
Comments very welcome.

Oh... and what would happen if one tried to use some of the powers in M&M with T20?

:)

Actually there's more reason to wear armor at higher levels in True20 than before, since Toughness doesn't escalate, although high-level heroes can still get by on their Defense (and possibly some investment in the Defensive Roll and Great Toughness feats).

Same here -- it looks really nice so far!

I can hardly wait to get it printed up and bound in order to give it a proper read.

Nice so far. Enjoying it.

Has anybody looked at what (if anything) is open gaming content? Will people who don't win the 'setting search' be able to use T20 in some form?

But a high lvl warrior in plate will be hit constantly. Will +8 to toughness save be worth that... hmm.

BTW, does magic armor improve defense or toughness?

Some places in T20, the text seem to imply that str is used for melee hit rolls, but the rules says otherwise. Is this a left over from BR? (fx. using powers for attack, talks about more dex than strength...).

How come warriors can't take surprise attack? Seems to me to be a real case of D&D heritage.

These are minor issues. I'm really digging what I'm reading. Woe to my workplace's printer on monday :)
