What's wrong with Weta doing the effects for an Evangelion movie? So far I am only aware of one project of theirs, the LoTR movies, and it saw no glaring problems.

I agree with you on a live-action Lupin. It has potential to be quite good. Of course, it also has potential to be quite awful.

My problem with Weta's Evangelion movie is not that I don't think that they could handle the effects. The movie will look beautiful. But Evangelion, which I wasn't terribly fond of in the first place, is a terrible idea for a live-action movie IMO, because it'll be angsty and over-the-top surreal if it followed the series, but completly un-Evangelion if it didn't.

I will see it, though, just for the effects.

I may be banned for this... I actually thought Scary Movie 2 was better than the first one which was total crap. Watching the first scene with James Woods playing the priest was disturbing and funny enough to make up for the rest of the movie.

While I didn't think that the second was better than the first, I
liked 'em both in a absurde nonsense spoof movie laugh-out-loud
kinda style. I've never really felt the need to see the movies
again after I originally saw them in the theatre, but they were a
lot of fun.

Maybe I was just lucky with theatre audiances.

Oh, and David Zucker's doing the third one. That there is enough
for me to see it no matter the track record.

Evangelion is totally doable, so long as they don't try to compress the entire series into two hours. It would be just like an OAV, but live, instead.

Defintely see where you are going with this. I think a skilled script writer could bring in the pilots emotional issues and still get to the crux of the action, and finish the story. It would have to utilize flashbacks freely, and some pretty intense dialogue sequences, but it COULD be done. Probably would not be, but they could.

Really, I always had mixed feelings with Evangelion. Never fully enjoyed it. It was fine, but I was made to belive it would be the greatest anime ever made, and it just wasn't for me. So, yeah, I'd be going to see the effects if nothing else.
