Don't underestimate the power of a well-designed logo. If you are a large corporation like Nike (which as I recall only paid $170 for their logo, lol) or AT&T (designed by the late, great Saul Bass), that logo is worth much more than one million dollars.
Their logos may be worth that much now, but they surely weren't worth that much when commissioned. Their value has mostly come from many years of investing that value into their logos through advertisement and such.

Correct, but when a large company changes logos, they want to do market research, etc to make sure the new brand image is welcome. AT&T, to keep up with the example, just changed their corporate ID.

They could have easily spent a million on that logo.

Well, that just goes to confirm my belief that Margaret Weiss is one of the nicest people on the planet. (I did an interview with her for another website about the Serenity RPG)

Dragonlance logo - more information

Hello everyone,

First thanks to James H for informing me of this post. To clarify where we got this information, we purchased a large number of items from Jim Ward several years ago. Jim wrote Deities and Demigods and from my understanding was basically a high level manager at TSR for quite some time, and even worked here at Noble Knight Games for a short period. That was the story he shared with me about that particular piece. I put it on the page because that particular bit of information really stuck in my head, I thought it was total madness!! Given his history at TSR I was certainly not one to call into question his expertise. Whether that is correct or not, I can only assume so, but the fact that Margaret says otherwise is interesting and brings up an interesting debate. I have Jims email although I don't think I should post it here publically. I'll email him and see what he has to say and post it here.

Best Regards,
Aaron Leeder
