TTT- [SPOILERS] - A certain char's Death experience

Wrong.

Sauron did not launch any attacks at all till after Saruman was defeated. In fact Sauron doesnt launch any of his attacks until Aragorn announces his existance to Sauron by using Sarumans Palantir to rip control of the Palantir that Sauron had been using.

Once Sauron knows that Aragorn exists he launches his attacks upon Gondor, as well as targets further to the West and to the North.

Aren't there supposed to be battles in the north as well? I was kinda hoping to see some of these. Thats why the great exodus from Rivendell struck me as a bit odd. Maybe they'll skip this in the movies and have a rerun of the battle of the five armies, but this time before the gates of Minas Tirith.

I agree with the good Doctor here about Haldir's death.

I think that PJ meant to foreshadow perhaps the Battle of Pelennor Fields and etc.?

Anyway, I think Haldir was meant to replace the book character of Hama (Theoden's squire who was killed by orcs) for some reason...

Sauron does indeed attack Lorien and Erebor. IIRC there are great battles on March 15, 3019 TA at Lorien, Erebor, and Minas Tirith. But we the reader do not know this until we read the Appendices in RotK. IMO by having the elves at Helm's Deep PJ is showing us that the elves are indeed in the War and this is just not a fight to be fought by men, granted this is the elves last great struggle in ME but they did fight. My biggest problem was that Haldir said he was sent by Erond! and not by Galadriel or Celeborn.

Since a movie is a different medium then a novel it has to be presented a little differently. If I'm wrong, well, I'm wrong but, hey at the begining of the movie it clearly stated that this was based on the novel by JRR Tolkien and I'm not too upset by the changes. Well, that's my 2 cps.

I just hope that everyone enjoyed LotR: TTT, I'm looking forward to RotK next year!

Doc,

All that happens, of course, in the book version... as we all now know in the movie version, things can be a little different. Here is what we can expect next year:

> Aragorn enters and wins a male beauty competition. He is crowned Beauty King of Gondor. This burns Denethor up (he came in third) as all his dreams have gone up in flames. Eomer finishes a distant 4th (he had trouble with the talent part of the competition).
> The jealous runner-up, Sauron of Morder, launches an all-out assault on Gondor, gets a new body sculptor; and works out day and night with hopes of becoming the next Mr. Middle-Earth. ;)

I was very upset that Haldir died as well... upset that Elves showed up in Helm's Deep even!

As I remember it, elves do show up...don't Elrond's two sons arrive with the Dunedain before that battle? I am guessing that the Lorien elves were used as Aragorn's 'troops' rather than the Dunedain for simplicity's sake (no need to bring in yet another faction previously unmentioned in the movie) and to give us a connection to them (we would recognize Haldir).

And I think his death was very well done.

Agreed.

And I'd point out to all gamers that "hated" the movie: your sentiments are a pity because this is likely to be the high water mark for the genre for quite some time. So get used to dissappointment.

That is one of the funniest comments I have read in a very long time. It cuts right to the heart.

::::::Eosins stands::::::::clap, clap, clap.

Good job.

... for 12 months, you mean?

I didn't think TTT was as good as the first one, for reasons which have nothing to do with fidelity or otherwise to the book. ROTK should be better.

Elladan and Elrohir arrive with the Northern Dunedain after the confrontation at Isengard between Gandalf and Saruman. They are not at the Battle of Helm's Deep. The only elf in the book at Helm's Deep is Legolas. They remain with Aragorn for the rest of the story.

I just finished Book I of TTT am now reading in the chapter about the Black Gate Closing in Book II of TTT. But in the Tale of Years (Appendix B) in the back of RotK: March 3 is the "Battle of the Hornburg". March 5 "Parley with Saruman..." March 6 "Aragorn overtaken by the Dunedain..."

Just to throw in my 2 cps. :)

I'm sensing a trend here. Aragorn kisses Boromir on the head who then dies, then Aragorn hugs Haldir who promptly dies thereafter. No wonder Elrond wants to keep Arwen away from Aragorn, he's got the touch of death! Damn him and his manly stubble!
