Tune of the Dancing Weapon, overpowered or just right?

A friend of mine have been discussing this... DOES a dancing weapon grant multiple attacks?

I see multiple attacks as a feature of BAB, he sees it as a additional benefit that goes to the character only.

That's not a balancing factor because that's also how the abilities work anyway. Keen works continuously on a weapon while dancing lasts four rounds. You have to pick up your dancing sword and activate it again just as with the spell (pick it up and cast it again). Except, in the case of the spell, you don't even have to pick it up. Also, what makes you think it only works for the caster? I see "Range: Touch" in your quote.

So, what is your answer to the OP's question? You are not considering my response at all, either way, it seems.

You're too fast for me ;)
A 2nd level spell with a duration of 4 rounds doesn't seems overpowered, even if you look at keen edge 3rd/10min lvl.
You get the BAB of the caster which is not very good and my sentence can follow...
It depends how you play the weapon.

My bladesinger is a 20th level character... with a BaB of 19. Nothing to sneeze at. But just because something is powerful with a particular character, doesn't mean that it's too powerful as a spell in general.

Savage Wombat, what makes you think it's specificly "bard magic"? There's nothing about it particularly "bardy", it doesn't work with bardic singing, etc. Beyond the fact that it's called "dancing", there's nothing bard related to it.

I don't think how you play the weapon matters at all, as long as you are consistent with the dancing property and the spell. If the dancing property, however you play it, is worth +4, then a 2nd level spell is too low. Maybe, just maybe, there could be some leeway for Bards, but not wiz/src. Like I said, the fact that it lasts only 4 rounds is not a balancing factor at all because that's exactly how the +4 market ability functions, too.

Ok, I have to say that the +4 ability seems wrong if my reading of the powers is good, in this case the spell seems ok.
Is there a thread about the defending property, or a FAQ? or something?

There were a couple recent threads about defending, but I thought we were discussing dancing? ;) No, I don't recall a recent one on dancing. What you said about it makes sense, however.
