turn based strategy PC games

I'm looking for a game which is:

1. Turn-based
2. War/strategy
3. Fantasy
4. Multiplayer
5. Play by email option

I have a number of friends who want to play, but we can't sit down at the same time to play RTS games, or even turn based that require networking.

Does anyone know of a good game that satisfies those requirements?

There seem to be a lot of online games like that, but you can't choose to play with just a set group of friends.

How old a game are you willing to play?

There were a lot of fantasy scenarios for Civilization 2 (which is still a better game than Civ 3.), and if you have an older machine that can run DOS there is alway Master of Magic.

Personally I like turn based games much better than real time strategy.

warlords 3.

Seconded. Warlords 4 is not nearly as good as Warlords 3 was.
There are some balance issues that arise after playing the same
warlord for a time.

Also Fantasy General, though it's kind of old, and only 2 players.

I'd recommend the Heroes of Might and Magic series (Best. TBS. Series. EVAR!) but I don't think they have a PBEM option.

I concur.. personally I much prefer turn based to real time
