TURTLEDOME! (Battle Bone!) -- Part 2

"And, good sir, how much would you charge us to revive those who do not survive?"
"The standard rate, of course: 500 gold pieces. This is assuming that you choose the 'to the death' option. Otherwise, revivification is automatic, and 'slain' party members will be able to view the battle from a special box and make commentary on the proceedings."

[sblock=Note to Players]If you choose 'To the Death', you get the double XP value for the encounter. If you do not, you get standard XP value, as there is less risk involved.[/sblock]

"And will we be allowed an entrance? Perhaps some time to work the crowd into a frenzied state of excitement?"
"Absolutely. That was stipulated in your contract."

[sblock=Hee-hee!]
Looking forward to the legal summons;)
Well, you didn't think I'd give y'all a house for free!

This will be part of the next adventure of your party. Should y'all survive TURTLEDOME!, y'all can recruit a couple of other party members.[/sblock]

[sblock=Weldon's List]
  • There was going to be a trash talk skill challenge before the fight. If successful, we get 100gp. Since the meter is already on green, do we assume that the preliminaries are done? Yep. If you want, you could ask for the 100 gp.
  • The approval meter is already on the second green, so the party gets a +1 to attack rolls. If it goes up to the third green, we get +1 to defense (and +1 to attack rolls?) Yep. You can use the trash talk to up the meter, or knock down the meter of the bad guys (which imposes penalties to their rolls). You can also perform stunts during the battle to affect the meters. Everybody gets one or two turns during the trash talk to bring up your approvalometer or bring down the Legion's approvalometer.
  • Everyone starts with one action point. Yep.
  • First fight (encounter). Yep. Keep that in mind for your whetstone, should you choose to send a runner for it. Also, on the whetstone, keep in mind that there are some other whetstones that might be more effective for a battle with a lot of minions.
  • Second fight (encounter). At the conclusion, anyone still alive gets a magical trinket. Yep. And at the end of each 'encounter', the TURTLEDOME! restores all HP and personal powers (daily & encounter), but not item-related powers.
  • 2 encounters = milestone = extra action point for the third encounter. You can only use one AP per encounter, so we should spend an AP in the 2nd fight and use one in the 3rd fight. Yep.
  • Third encounter. If we win, we get 300gp (75gp each). Vaunea gets a plush doll of herself. Yep. It ain't a lot, considering how far y'all have come, since we were all thinking it was just going to be a quick fight. However, if y'all want to make more money, you can place a bet upon the party.
  • Party! I'm looking forward to seeing Emral's coat after victory in the Turtledome. :) Yep!
[/sblock]

"I know you've already refused me once, but I'd like to again offer to change the terms of the battle. If you elect to make the battle 'to the death', I would be willing to offer each of you 1000 gold pieces, should you survive."[/FONT][/SIZE]
Finnian chews on his lip at the mention of 1000gp, and finally can't contain himself any longer...

I'll take that offer! 1000gp would buy me the biggest plot in the whole village, and then some! I bet Arabelle would let me take her to the harvest dance if I came back with that. Hoo boy...

Finnian drifts off into silent reverie at the thought of returning to his small hometown with the trappings of victory in the Turtledome. Plump farm girls fawning over him, boys green as apples with envy, the village elders welcoming him into the guild with full standing, maybe he could even be a master if he played his cards right. 1000gp would let him shove all the humiliation and teasing back in the face of everyone who doubted him. It would show his foster parents that he wasn't a no-good, half-breed outcast. It would show everyone!

Well, what do you say y'all? Don't you think we should do it? I *know* we can win!

[sblock=To the Death!]If anyone doesn't feel the same as Finnian, that's fine. Go ahead and shout him down. He'll mumble and grumble, but go along with the group every time.

For those that might have a less... *emotional* reaction to the offer, here's the breakdown...

4 survive = 4000gp (1000gp each)
3 survive = 3000gp - 500gp = 2500gp (625gp each)
2 survive = 2000gp - 1000gp = 1000gp (250gp each)
1 survives = 1000gp - 1500gp = -500gp (-125gp each)
0 survive = 0gp - 2000gp = -500gp each[/sblock]

Important!

[sblock=Benefits and Tokens]This is as good a time as any to mention the benefits the party has thus far for the battle...

Approvalometer Effects
The Approvalometer, at Green 2, all party members get a +1 bonus to attack rolls during the fight. Also, you have gained two Tokens of Favor. A party member can spend a token to do one of the following...
  • Get Up! -- spend a Healing Surge as a free action (even if unconscious).
  • Get Going! -- gain an extra action, as if having spent an action point.
  • Do It Again! -- regain the use of an encounter or daily power that you have already expended.
  • Try Harder! -- re-roll a failed attack roll with a +1 bonus.
Spending a Token of Favor is a free action. It can only be done on your turn. Once used, tokens are gone forever. They will not be restored each 'round' of the battle.

Special Psychic Tokens
Because of the party's interaction with the general public, you have caused the approvalometer to generate several special tokens. These tokens are as follows...
A MARILITH SCORNED
You really should have been more polite to that marilith!
Available to: Legion of Bone
Effect: When activated, this token grants all members of the Legion of Bone a +1 bonus to all attacks and damage against Emral until the end of the activator’s next turn.

DUUUUUUUUUDE!
Uncle Mikey loves the party!
Available to: Any one party member.
Effect: You may activate this token as a free action when you imbibe a potion. You do not have to spend a healing surge to gain the potion’s effects.

EVERYBODY LOVES VAUNEA
Nothing protects a warrior like the pure-hearted love of children.
Available to: Vaunea.
Effect: You may activate this token as an immediate interrupt when you are supposed to suffer damage from an attack. The token negates all effects of the attack.

GOOD RIDDANCE!
Your fans feel nothing but relief that Hadarai has left the party—and that provides you with relief as well.
Available: Entire party.
Effect: A party member may activate this token as a free action on his or her turn. All members of the party immediately recover 4 HP and may perform a save against one effect.

GIVE HIM A FOOT IN THE MOUTH AND HE’LL TAKE A MILE
Finnian’s gaffes have moved the public, so now they want to move him.
Available: Finnian.
Effect: As a free action, you may shift 6 squares.

MARCO’S HOPES AND DREAMS
Marco’s desire for the party’s victory grants new life to the fallen.
Available: Any one party member.
Effect: As a free action, when a party member becomes unconscious or dies, you may activate this token. The fallen party member immediately recovers, gaining full hit points.

ONE-ARMED HALFLING SUPER-FU
Cousin Eustace’s hard-bitten, dirty-fightin’ warrior spirit inspires you.
Available: Any one party member.
Effect: You may use this token as a free action when one of your attacks hits an opponent. That opponent is stunned until the end of its next turn.

ONE HOT HUNK OF MANHOOD
The red-hot lust of women everywhere fuels Drivan’s flames.
Available to: Drivan.
Effect: When you cast Scorching Burst, you may activate this token. The area of spell becomes burst 5, and it inflicts 2d6, rather than 1d6 damage. You gain a +2 bonus on attack rolls with the burst.

RATS!
Swillwort’s gratitude over his release from his horrible state sets the party free from their afflictions.
Available to: Entire party.
Effect: All party members automatically succeed in saves against any current, ongoing effects.

Once you expend a psychic token, it is gone forever. Only the person to whom the token is available may activate it.

Dave, Spirit of War
Dave’s presence grants the party a +2 bonus to initiative.

If a party member spends an action point, that party member gains a +1 bonus to all attacks and defenses until the end of his or her next turn.

Once per round, a party member may spend a Dave Token. A Dave Token has one of the following effects, chosen when it is used:
  • A party member may shift one space.
  • A party member may regain 1d6 HP without spending a healing surge.
  • A party member may perform a basic melee attack as a free action.
  • Designate an enemy as a target. All party members gain a +1 bonus to attack rolls against that target until the start of activator's next turn.
Using a Dave Token is a free action that a party member may perform on his or her turn. The party may only use one Dave Token per round.

Note: Dave is a replacement for Hadarai’s abilities, when the party battles in TURTLEDOME![/sblock]

Well, what do you say y'all? Don't you think we should do it? I *know* we can win!
A small smile appears on the lips of Mr. Pinch, as well as a sinister twinkle in his eyes.

"Yes. And you might also want to consider that accepting a battle to the death changes the betting odds from 2 to 1 against the party to 5 to 1 against..."

P.S. -- You can only bet money that you have!

[sblock=ooc] Dang it! Did you guys stay up one night typing? On speed?! (everyone's against me, because I'm the center of the Universe and it's all about me!!!)

I'm all for the to-the-death clause. If Emral dies, he dies, sure; but I don't want to avoid possibly dying because I don't want him to get hurt. Also, he's an adventurer, and expects to die in combat all the time.

Can we go into this on our own? Like me, but not Drivan, could go to the death?

Also: I'm trying to find a DM on the pbp boards here for a 4e paragon campaign. Ken can't do it; any of you game? Even just playing or something? [/sblock]

Drivan turns from the window and look at Mr. Pinch.

"Sir, I speak only for myself but I'm for the "to-the-death" version... I'd say that the rewards outweigh the risks..."

Drivan pauses, allowing conversation to continue but when a moment arrives that he can speak with Mr. Pinch he brings up a separate matter...

"I have a small request, do you have any legal counsel you could provide us with? We, as a party, have a small legal issue to contend with once we are done destroying the Legion of Bone. We'd be willing to perform a service in return, such as chasing down loose gladiators or some such service."

[sblock=OOC]I'd be willing to play in a game FitD, but don't really have the time to DM one. I'm willing to bet my share of the gold on the party... Wonder if we could find anyone willing to finance our bet... someone should send a runner to Marco;)[/sblock]

[sblock=Whetsone]Would the whetstones make my throwing hammer return to my hand? I'd like to get two +2 augmenting whetstones for Finnian and a tempest whetstone or two for Vaunea. This would come out of party gold and would mean less money to bet on the fight. Thoughts?[/sblock]
[sblock=Paragon Tier]I would play in a game, if you get one together[/sblock]

That can't be true. I'M the center of the universe.

Nope! Everybody or nobody![/sblock]

"Sir, I speak only for myself but I'm for the "to-the-death" version... I'd say that the rewards outweigh the risks..."
"Very good."

"I have a small request, do you have any legal counsel you could provide us with?"
"I won't be able to provide you with legal counsel, as he is a high-ranking devil and would probably eat you, but we do have a firm that we employ from time-to-time in Daunton: Blorstrob, Eisenfeld and Grimm. I could arrange an introduction if you wish."

[sblock=Whetsone]Would the whetstones make my throwing hammer return to my hand? No.[/sblock]
