TURTLEDOME! (Battle Bone!) -- Part 2

I did see a guy that was willing to sell me some whetstone to add a temporary enchantment to my hammer. Is there time to grab that before the fight?
"I do believe that is a question, Finnian.", says the oni.

"As I stated earlier, we prefer our gladiators to be sequestered before the main event. Thus, we expect you to remain in TURTLEDOME! for the rest of the day. However, you will have full use of our day spa and lobster buffet. If I do you wish to make a last minute purchase, I could send a courier for you."

Hey COAT!, can you back up my air guitar? Emral says, trying out a few spastic notes with his hands.
THE COAT! does indead provide back up.

yes, i have a question: what happens to Hadarai if he doesn't fight with us? Like, not with, but alongside... y'know.
Mr. Pinch shrugs. "Personally speaking, I don't want such an odious individual in my arena. Practically speaking, our consumer polling showed that parents were unwilling to bring their children to the arena because they feared the children would pick up bad habits from Hadarai. Since TURTLEDOME! is a family experience, we felt it appropriate to activate the dismissal clause in Hadarai's contract. A mystical mark will appear on his forehead, forever identifying him as contract-breaker."

"Any other questions?"
says the gigantic Mr. Pinch, gesturing at the arena which you are currently overlooking and can easily perceive all of its topographical features should be so inclined to look...

Someone might want to read that sheet of paper you received before entering the turtle.

[sblock=Whetstone]Yes. You use a minor action and get the benefit until the end of the encounter.[/sblock]

[sblock=Paragon Games]Nah, no paragon or epic games for me yet. I'm going to have my hands full with you guys. I'm hoping all of you want to continue to the next stage in the TURTLEDOME! which will involve a 'classic' dungeon crawl, as well as legal proceedings against the party.

If I was going to play another game, I'd like to use the FUDGE rules and have something a little more freeform.[/sblock]

Yeah, I guess that is a question, isn't it? Oh wait! That's another question, right? I mean...

Well, anyways, thanks for the explanation. Oh and sorry, but what's a spa? and what do we buff with the lobsters? our weapons? armor?

Finnian takes a look at the paper and peers at it for a moment before shrugging his shoulders and handing it to Emral.

He then stares out at the arena to discover what he can about the layout of the battlefield.

Perception Check = 16

[sblock=OOC]I'm unclear on what healing options we have. We have two healing potions, right? How should we distribute those?[/sblock]

Drivan is silent for the conversation, watching the ongoings from the back of the room. He makes his way to the window and joins Finnian looking over the battlefield while he waits his turn to look over the paper...

[sblock=Healing]We have, like 30 healing potions.

Healing Potion breakdown and descriptions

And there was also a post where Ken said we should be VERY afraid of the number of healing potions we just received. I tend to agree with him on this one.[/sblock]

"How fight work? Vaunea no get Finch." Vaunea says while glancing out into the arena. She is looking at the arena, trying to get a better view of the layout.

[sblock=OOC]Finnian doesn't know about the pills, so I'll make the suggestion OOC that we split the pills evenly with the extras going to Vaunea and Finnian...

Vaunea - 8 "normal" pills, 2 "go" pills, 2 "super" pills, 1 potion
Finnian - 8 "normal" pills, 1 "go" pill, 1 "super" pill, 1 potion
Emral - 7 "normal pills", 1 "go" pill, 1 "super" pill
Drivan - 7 "normal pills", 1 "go" pill, 1 "super" pill

Any other thoughts?[/sblock]

Oh and sorry, but what's a spa?
"It's a place of relaxation, where you may receive massages, soak in a hot tub, sit in a sauna, read books, listen to music, perform a wide variety of grooming, and so forth."

and what do we buff with the lobsters? our weapons? armor?
Mr. Pinch chuckles.

He has very long, sharp tusks!

"Ah, delightful. I suppose you could buff in the inside of your bellies, as you can eat as many of them as you desire. The buffet includes other gourmet delights as well, such as gorgon sashimi or curried illithid brains."

"How fight work? Vaunea no get Finch."
"It's Pinch, my dear."

"As I stated earlier, because of your party's incredible popularity, we have decided to extend the fight to maximize the public's enjoyment and the momentous nature of the occassion. The fight will take place in three distinct rounds, each of increasing difficulty. In the first, you shall face only a handful of the Legion. This will whet the public's appetite for more. After your inevitable (I hope) victory, we will use magic to restore your party to full strength (though I'm sad to say that we can restore any items you may use, such as potions). Then, after a short break, you will fight the second round of the battle, against many more members of the Legion, including some officers within their command structure. After that, we will restore all surviving party members. After another short break, during which I shall award your group the contractually agreed upon magical item, assuming your entire group is intact, you will begin the final round of the Battle Bone, engaging the full might of the Legion."

"I know you've already refused me once, but I'd like to again offer to change the terms of the battle. If you elect to make the battle 'to the death', I would be willing to offer each of you 1000 gold pieces, should you survive."

The party peers over the railing of the balcony and sees...

About the Arena...

Two approvalometers levitate above the stadium. The approvalometer for the party is on the second tier of green. The approvalometer for the Legion of Bone is middle yellow.

The arena is square and surrounded by a high wall.

Yes! Those are catapults.

The wooden squares near the catapults are elevators.

The center is a diaz with a glowing magic circle.

About the Sheet of Paper...

The sheet of paper is a legal summons.

Mr. Archibald Pennyfoolish has employed the services of Blorstrob, Eisenfeld and Grimm to sue the party for destruction of property, loss of wages, criminal trespass, and illegal improvements on a building.

Drivan looks back and forth between his fellow party members...

"And, good sir, how much would you charge us to revive those who do not survive?" Drivan asks of Pinch, hastily adding, "I am not, of course, suggesting that any of us couldn't survive. And will we be allowed an entrance? Perhaps some time to work the crowd into a frenzied state of excitement?"

[sblock=OOC]Looking forward to the legal summons;)[/sblock]

[sblock=Fight Mechanics]So I went back and reread the original agreement with Mr. Pinch and wanted to make sure I understood how the fight would work. Ken, if I've got anything wrong, please correct me. Just want to make sure I don't make a tactical blunder because I'm still new to the rules.

  • There was going to be a trash talk skill challenge before the fight. If successful, we get 100gp. Since the meter is already on green, do we assume that the preliminaries are done?
  • The approval meter is already on the second green, so the party gets a +1 to attack rolls. If it goes up to the third green, we get +1 to defense (and +1 to attack rolls?)
  • Everyone starts with one action point.
  • First fight (encounter).
  • Second fight (encounter). At the conclusion, anyone still alive gets a magical trinket.
  • 2 encounters = milestone = extra action point for the third encounter. You can only use one AP per encounter, so we should spend an AP in the 2nd fight and use one in the 3rd fight.
  • Third encounter. If we win, we get 300gp (75gp each). Vaunea gets a plush doll of herself.
  • Party! I'm looking forward to seeing Emral's coat after victory in the Turtledome. :)
