Merin's Favor to the World

Indigo said:
"...If the townsfolk see us acting [...] I want a bath before having a town meeting."

Merin says, "I didn't mean that we should call the town meeting ourselves; I meant that we should go straight to Giodavi, and inform him of what has happened, and then while he is busy making arrangements for the town meeting, we can take care of mundane business, such as re-provisioning, bathing, etc. I know better than to run around proclaiming that the sky is falling. I've heard that fairy tale many times."

Merin winks assuredly at Indigo, as he calmly proceeds to find Giodavi.

Later, during the post-meal talk, Merin adds to Sannit's narrative.

Sannit said:
"...the blame for the [two] murders was placed on us, of course..."

Merin says, "Especially since I was forced to kill Sauserdepoop during their struggle to capture us. So we're only responsible for one of the Magisters' deaths, but we will take the blame for all three, no doubt."

Clavo says,"...You mean Suausedaserp?"

Merin replies, "No, I mean poop, because that's all he metaphorically was in life, and that's all that he literally is now, since the vultures have had their way with him. He was a maniacal, deranged psychopath bent on destruction. The world is a much better place, now that I have taken him out of it."

Tor raises a glass to Merin, and says, "Here's to our brother, Merin, who has done us all a great favor! Saluti!"

After the meal, Sannit will tell the story of the Asylim trip to the Boarshead crowd... Later, when the elders are meeting to discuss the plan to resist Asylim, Sannit says, "We should send messengers to Bergbaulager and Boga City..."
Sheldon nods at Sannit's comment. He runs his left hand through his freshly cut hair. "I agree. We definitely should see where we stand with our allies. Merin and Tor should lead the expedition to Bergbaulager since Tor has developed the best report with the Maldrog. I think I should lead the expedition to Boga City since I was born there and am fluent in Centrin. I see no reason why we cannot spplit up and go both directions at once. We should be able to make the trips quickly riding our Windrunners."

Vadin has his drink at the tavern... He pauses, pulls back his hair, and says "I wonder if we can ambush them?"
Indigo, who is most often silent, answers Vadin. "I think we can. We are currently nearing the end of the Drenching Season, which ends the official year. We will have 60 days of the Chilling Season before the Seeding Season will be upon us. If an army leaves Asylim, then, the fastest that I can imagine them arriving would be 30 days into Seeding.

South where the piney woods end, the mountains that border the western jungle and the desert narrow and the road follows the western cliffs for several days' walk. The road then moves eastward and follows the the Dragon's Tail for several more days' walk before moving into the pass that enters the desert.

Even without additional soldiers, the eight of us, counting Turtle, could harangue an approaching army at several points, inflicting damage and moving quickly away with the benefit of the speed of our mounts. With Merindell and Sheldon, we have a secret advantage that a regular army could never accommodate
."

Bolo will not attend the elder meeting (she knows what Sannit knows anyway). She will be prowling around outside with Turtle, using Way to Darken their surroundings to keep them hidden. There could be possible spies for Asylim in town and Bolo will try to find anyone trying to listen to the town meeting.
OOC: Darken roll: 60, Obscurative: 53
GM: Not only can Bolo darken the area around herself; but by touching Turtle, she can darken the area around him as well.

[sblock=Darken]35(collegiate) + 40(mind) = 75
GM: There is no random aspect to Darken.
[/sblock]
[sblock=Stealth]Bolo: 39(obscurative) + 54(inversion) + 75(darken) + 60(d100) = 228
Turtle: 27(obscurative) x2(fur) = 54 + 75(darken) + 60(d100) = 189[/sblock]
GM: As Bolo and Turtle move as one around the town, they pass fairly close to other people without anyone seeming to take any notice. In her mission to ferret out anyone who might prove to be in opposition to the well-being of Southroad Fair, she finds no one to rouse her suspicion. Rather than feeling as if her mission were a failure, she is bolstered by the confidence that all residents of the town are aligned to the cause of community.

Merin and Tor readily agree to taking the Windrunners to Bergbaulager. After the discussion, Merin and Tor both make preparations for the journey. Early the next morning, they take their armor to Swift Raven and Fallen Leaf, and inquire as to how long repairs will take. If the repairs can be made in one day's time, they will wait, departing on the following morning. If it will take longer, then they leave that same morning, with their armor as-is.

San-Bolo will also have their armor repaired and they will ride to Bergbaulager. Along the journey they will assess the trade route and see where improvements can be made.

GM: Swift Raven and Fallen Leaf look over the damaged items of leatherwork to determine the cost and estimated time of repairs. The two can perfectly mend all items in one day for a total cost of 4380 clams, which the Seekers can readily afford.

The trip to Bergbaulager takes only three days, by Windrunner. The path, having been newly established and infrequently traveled, could use much work in improving its condition. The path is too narrow for the easy pulling of wagons and carts and much too strewn with loose boulders. The heights, as the path climbs into the mountains, could use the development of switchbacks to make it less strenuous.

The Maldrog show a surprising amount of interests in the unfortunate development of an enemy army approaching from Asylim with malevolent intent. After very little deliberation, they agree to send a heavy unit to offer bulwark protection should the enemy actually reach the southern edge of town. With the size of Bergbaulager only being about twice that of Southroad Fair, the unit will only contain 20 soldiers. This heavy unit will be lead by the familiar unit of the Berbaulager Prospectors, the leader of whom volunteers. It will take this unit 15 days to reach Southroad Fair. If it leaves at the first of Seeding, it should arrive 15 days ahead of the enemy army.

Sheldon and Indigo depart for Boga City, alone. The trip takes 4 days, by Windrunner. While the Commissioners of Boga City are disappointed by this push of aggression from Asylim, they do not seem surprised. After some slight deliberation, they agree to send a small force, not wanting to risk putting their own city in a vulnerable position by significantly reducing their own standing guard.

Despite this admission, Sheldon and Indigo are astounding that the "small" force consist of a unit of 100 mounted archers. Even at a leisure pace of 8 days, this force will not need to leave until well into Seeding Season to be of help in a timely manner.

After all have returned, the town counsel is ecstatic at the thought of having such aid offered from such new allies. Having secured what forces it may, this leaves the Seekers to discuss their own plan of action.

San-Bolo thank the Maldrog for their support and go over the parts of the trail that need work done. Sannit proposes that each community take half of the trail for improvements and meet in the middle. If this work is done soon it could hasten the progress of the Bergbaulager soldiers as well as more trade.

Back at Southroad Fair when the Seekers are alone again with their close allies Sannit says, "Now that we know the town will be well guarded, we can talk about how to stop that army before it even gets to Southroad Fair. We don't have to kill every last Asylin soldier, we just have to break their will. Getting them to flee is just as much a victory as total destruction. If we harass them at night, keep them from getting rest it could slow them down."

Turtle is ecstatic to be back on the road with the Seekers.

Merin and Tor thank the Maldrog also, especially Tor, who tells them that he is in their debt. When Merin and Tor hear San-Bolo's plan for road improvement, and for harassing the pending army, they are in agreement. Both of them point out the advantages of guerilla warfare against a large, slow-moving force.

Tor says, "You know, if we could make it almost back to Asylim, and harrass them almost as soon as they leave the city, the boldness of attacking them successfully in their own territory might prove to be a crippling blow to their morale. What say the rest of you?"

GM: The Bergbaulager faction realizes that the creation of a road from the path is an almost daunting task. With the aid of a crew from the Maldrog, it would take a crew from Southroad Fair a good year to clear the way and provide a better traverse. Then, regular maintenance will be necessary to keep the natural growth at bay. This is definitely something suited to those of the mundane labor rather than prospectors and explorers. The road will come, but the war will come, first.

Sheldon and Indigo are more than excited about the news with which they and the others have returned and the impetus to take the fight to the enemy.
"Horses give us a distinct advantage with speed, even at a pace Turtle can maintain, though with the addition of a cart, we could tether two of the colts to it to pull Turtle at a faster pace that way he is not fatigued when it comes to battle. Clavo would likely loan us the use of one of the Carpenters' carts in the advent of war if we do not wish to keep it."

Indigo touches Bolo on the shoulder. "Do you think Turtle could be comforted to ride in a cart? I think Sheldon has a good idea, there."

Sheldon continues, "Do we want to carry water and leave early enough to go all the way into the desert?"

Indigo looks around. "I hope Vadin is still with us. We have lost Galen, Siofra, Respen, Revan, and Saemund."

Vadin also thanks the Maldrog for their assistance. He hears the idea being discussed amongst his companions and adds, "I love the idea of harrassing the enemy. I work best at quick attacks." He pulls his hair back and clips it. "I say let's get a move on, and try to get as close to Asylim as we can. I can certainly carry water."

Bolo smiles at Sheldon and replies, "Wouldn't it be easier just to increase Turtle's speed when I need to? I do not think dragging a wood cart around with us will help with speed or stealth. I have no intention of sending our loveable bear friend against trained soldiers. I will use my usual tactic of range, and Turtle will stay with me to guard my back so that Sannit can be free on the front line."

San-Bolo propose to scout out the area that the soldiers will approach from and find suitable places for ambushes or to hide supplies if needed. They will also look for good places to set traps.
