Taylar..."traders... Outpost... armor... area... to see..." He... boots. "... looking..."
... Raven Elk... looks around...
Rheini, as it happens is a better language for the Sioliri, but not so much for the others. Maldrog is completely unknown. With the general friendly nature of the community and the efforts of all involved for conversation, most of what is desired is understood. The Sioliri declare that they can adequately repair the damaged garments. Adisakti shakes his head. He more directly communicates a desire to find a leather worker in a village to the south.

The villagers look back and forth at one another, speaking in their own language, then Almit speaks in Markidian. "Village on great sea. Markidian village. We think is no more. People gone. No trade for few years. Longer than Outpost. Pelimonra across river better, but village burn."

Adisakti says to Taylar in Maldrog. "I think it is worth a look. We should go to the village anyway. What do you think about offering to buy a canoe from these people?"

No one seems to be bothered by Raven Elk strolling about town. He notices that it is structured around hunting and fishing, mostly fishing. The people are quiet but friendly. Nothing peculiar or out of place is noticed. Everything about these people seems genuine, like they would be good to have as trading partners.
OOC: All characters receive 6 DP.

Raven Elk comes back to his friends who are still talking with the elders of the village.
"From what I've seen of these folk, brothers, this could be a valuable trading partner for Outpost. They seem eager, friendly, and maybe a bit innocent, though not naive, I'll bet. Much could be gained with a trade agreement." Seeing that his friends are preoccupied with other thoughts, Raven Elk changes the subject, "So, what say my brothers. Where do we go from here?"

Taylar gratefully accepts the offers of repair work for his clothing and armor. He asks what the Siolori would like in return, and asks to trade for a canoe.

When he hears about the Pelimonra village burning, Taylar says, "Yes, we have seen and heard of hostile raiders wearing uniforms attacking small communities. What do you know of these things?"

Raven Elk... "So... Where do we go from here?"
Taylar... accepts... repair work... trade for a canoe.

... raiders... uniforms attacking small communities. What do you know...?"
Repairing the damaged items is considered a simple matter and the Sioliri agree exchange services for 4 sunstones. As for the canoe, though it at first seems odd and unexpected that they would do so, they agree to sell a canoe for 1 sunstone, 1 heartstone, and 100 marks. It is the coin that seems odd for an isolated community, but the currency is accepted for exchange throughout the region and can later be used in other trade.
GM: Previously damage items have a maximum coverage of 1% less than their original value for each necessary repair.

As to the question, the elders discuss the issue briefly then one replies. "Nothing. Nothing here like that. Uniforms sound like soldiers. No soldier here that we know, but Markidian people have soldiers. We not travel south few cycles. Maybe people return."

During the polite conversation and the time necessary to wait for repairs to be completed, the Outliers are invited to stay the night. Raven Elk notices first, since he has already spent time looking around town, but mentions to the others that the Sioliri seem to be a religious people; but instead of reverencing the Sun and Moons, they reverence the Wind and the Rain. There are artistic decorations in many places about the village designed to catch the wind and dance or make sound, and others to channel the rain through series of containers.

Taylar says in Thisidan, "To me the rain is just water molecules condensing in the atmosphere and then falling back to the ground. The concept of rain is amazing because it's an advanced water distrubution and purifying cycle, or water cycle if you prefer. It must take a supreme intelligence to come up with something like that for an entire planet, because all places on the planet I've ever been to need water to sustain life. But people can worship whatever they choose."
Since Thisidan is spoken in Outpost, Taylar will continue to use that language for the Sioliri. He will encourage them to return to Outpost and mention that they are friends of the Outliers.
He warns them, "Watch out for soldiers. They slaughtered the Pelimonra village."

GM: The current age of technology is the Iron Age, though the word, harnin, is used instead of the word steel. The function of life and worlds is controlled by gods using magic. Any concept of science is yet to be developed and will not be so for a millennium or two.

Adisakti looks at Taylar and says, "Molecules!? Atmosphere!?"

The Sioliri elder says, "We know our gods are not the rain or the wind, but they are in them and actions can be... pare' through them. A god is an... i pakuptueshem. Religion uses symbols to explain gods. We use rain and wind. We need to visit Outpost, yes. We need to see Pelimonra Village."

Adisakti then clarifies. "Citadel soldiers. Watch for Citadel Soldiers. There is some power struggle in the Kingdom of West Cove. Citadel soldiers wear a blazing sun symbol on their armor."

The coin is handed over and the three men board their canoe, heading downstream. Travel is much faster by boat than it could be overland. An odd quiet reaches the ears of the men before anything can really be seen of the community. Pulling alongside a wooden dock, the boat is exited and secured.

The village is completely void of people, and likely has been for some time. The forest has begun to encroach upon the former civilization. The buildings are all intact and no sign of trouble can be seen. The village appears to have simply been abandoned. Wandering around, it is noted that varmints seem to making use of the empty structures.

After several hours of just wandering around town and looking at things, a few anomalies stand out. A path from the dock to a certain building in town appears to have been used by people, not just animals. A similar path leads from that same building away from town to the northwest and another due west.
OOC: Each character receives 5 DP and improves in Sioliri by 1%.

Looking inside the building that shows signs of still having some use, the Outliers are perplexed to find it completely empty of anything really useful. Not only does the building appear to have been abandoned, it appears to have been cleared out, except for a single table in the center of the main room.

Adisakti stands in the porch area of that building and looks toward the dock. He them walks around the house, twice, looking at the other paths.

"Someone is periodically having a clandestine meeting here. It seems that several people travel the paths from the dock and to the west, but the one to the northwest, I think may be used by only a single person. What do you say we check it out, first?"

Raven Elk agrees with the plan, saying:
"Good idea. It seems this may be an operation that has been going on for some time, even before this business with the Temple soldiers." he pauses but a moment, "It would be most beneficial to find out which side they are allied to now."

Taylar looks around and says in Maldrog, "Let us search this area thoroughly to try and find something that will tell us about these people. It might help in our interactions with them."
Search meeting area: 69
If the Outliers find nothing interesting then Taylar will agree to follow the single path to the northwest.

Having already spent much of the day searching the area in order to discover and assess information about the town, Taylar's redoubled effort yields one new piece of discovery. The dust on the table has been periodically disturbed, as if something or somethings small have been placed on, then removed from the table.

Divining no other recourse, the men choose the path that leads northwest of the cabin. No one has enough skill or talent to assess anything more specific about its traveler other than it appears to be only one or a few people. In less than an hour of careful walking, it is the smell that assails the men first, a peculiarly acrid odor that seems somewhat familiar. Getting closer, a small hermitage can be seen and some smaller outlying structures. The smell is definitely coming from this area and the party is downwind. It is Raven Elk who conveys that the smell may be tanning liquid.

It seems reasonable that a secretive tanner has been located, though no one is currently about. Waiting idle and watching for about as long as anyone is able to tolerate it, a solitary man comes from the tiny house and walks to one of the other structures. The man appears to be the thinnest, middle-aged Markidian any of them has seen, thin enough that he may be Faethrin instead of Aedaman, but none of the party has ever seen a gray-skinned Faethrin.
