Looks like Obad-Hai might be out ... the new Design & Development article on halflings is more or less the same fluff from R&C, but it now says they were created by Melora and Sehanine instead of Obad-Hai and Sehanine.
Yep good riddance to Obad-Hai.
Nice avatar, say hi to Moata Moa for me ;)

Ah. Gotcha. I thought it was a misspelling of "grunt".

I have to say I've never heard that term in the 4.5 years I've lived here ...

There needs to be a Tymora-like god(dess) of good fortune. Maybe that'll be tacked onto Avandra's portfolio?

Looks like it...

But Avandra, the goddess of boldness, luck and travel, took note of the halflings traversing the world.

Now we are obviously going for adult themes in 4E if they replace Obad-Hai with Melora in the relationship above

Looks like that is happening, too!

Legend says that Melora and Sehanine together crafted the halflings, ...

What's wrong with Obad-Hai? Why the hate?

And in response to some other posts, why exactly is it a bad thing to have gods that don't directly relate to stuff that adventurer's care about? Why have gods at all if you're only going to use them to justify where one character class gets their power from? Just give the class its powers and find some other name for the source.

NO!

Myself, I am tired from the cliché recent trend that bring at least agnostism to a world. For once, there should be this very human aspect of life that is religion accounted.

I have never liked Obad-Hai.. his name, his symbol, his story. No real reason, just don't like him. Just personal preference, which is being catered to in 4E in this case- nice!

Oh, and Pukunui, the only name we used for 'em, when I was a kid. Probably not used that much now tho', it was a while ago ;)

I don't think it has anything to do with where the classes get their powers from (with the possible exception of the cleric). It's more to do with the designers' argument that a cleric of a god of agriculture hasn't got much reason to go adventuring, so why not give the agriculture portfolio to a god who also has things that will make people go adventuring in his/her name? Hence, Pelor, the god of the sun, is now also the god of agriculture (which actually makes a helluva lot of sense, what with the obvious relationship between agriculture and the sun).

So there will still be things that don't directly relate to adventuring, but there won't be gods whose portfolios are solely those things. "Adventuring gods" will now have all the non-adventuring stuff in their portfolios. It's built right into tnto the cosmology, what with the little fluff bit about the gods breaking up into "small groups" in order to fight the primordials. So the gods "invented" adventuring ... ;)

@ mach1.9pants: gotcha. where is "amongst the vines"? Gisborne? Hawkes Bay? Marlborough?
